YEESS!! Haha, that movie was wicked. And partially agree with you. There will always be smart and dumb people, always have been. But the gap does seem to be widening.
As for the world ending ... even if it IS being blown out of proportion .... who who the fuck would allow an experiment even remotely similar to that if those kinds of results were even .0000001% likely to occur?!

From a different (less pleasant point of view) - we need dumb people. People who are content to sweep our floors, pick our food, and flip our burgers and not go batshit insane while doing it. Sure we have impoverished minorities and illegal immigrants for that now, but with the whole "march towards equality for all people" bullshit that we've started towards in the last 20 or so years, simply financially oppressing scores of immigrants is becoming less okay. Dumb people aren't a race though, so it's okay - at least for now.

.....*slaps you*
We don't NEED dumb people to mop our floors and flip our burgers, we DONT need things like restaurants. People are more then capable of cooking for themselves and cleaning up after themselves. Convincing them to do what may prove difficult, but it's not like they will die from doing those things.
And lets stop saying dumb ... that word erks me, everyone is smart in a different way. Just because you don't understand what they are good at you call them dumb ... which sort of makes you look dumb. :/

You are such a product of the 80s/90s. Here's a wake up call - people aren't all equal just because the songs you sang in kindergarten said they were. Some people are intellectually inferior - which doesn't mean calling them dumb is a bad thing or has a negative connotation. They're just not cut out to be scientists or engineers. Comparatively, that makes them dumb. Perhaps it's a loaded word choice... perhaps something sterile-sounding like "cognitively deficient" would be better.

Their service to society is invaluable in both the labor preform for society and the things they choose to spend their paychecks on - without them, the economy would collapse, so don't suggest that their jobs could be preformed by anyone without consequence (unless you're advocating genocide to keep the economy going). Now who looks dumb?

As much as I hate to admit it, Bashar has a good point. I see where you're coming from Guy, and I agree with you up to a point.

I think that there isn't a person alive that couldn't find a way to be as intelligent as anybody else. The problem is that some people DON'T have that drive to be as intelligent. For those that lack the drive, they need occupations to fill that lack of drive. (EDIT: I just realized that I forgot to mention those with mental disabilities, and that don't have the ability to gain intelligence. For all purposes, just consider when I say "a person alive" I mean a "normal" person capable of intelligent thoughts and has a capability to learn)

I remember an old debate I had with a good friend of mine regarding this same subject. We came to this agreement (after about two hours of bickering)

"People has the capability of being whoever they want to be, they simply lack the drive necessary to do so."

For example, I will admit that I'm overweight. I would like to be able to lose some of the extra weight and get in better shape, but I simply lack the drive to do so. It's a similar concept with intelligence.

So for the "dumb" people, we have occupations that can fill their needs (like Bashar said), and still not leave them on the streets homeless and without a job. But we also offer institutions to give those with the drive to get an education and find intelligence (like Guy said).

That's at least what I believe anyway.

Hm ... I don't think you quite understood what I was saying. I'll say it again: There is no such things as dumb people. Just people who are smart in different ways. Yes, some people are better at solving complex equations, others at verbalizing thoughts and concepts, others yet at expressing thought through a visual image. As chrono said, people lack drives to acquire certain skills. People are for the most part products of their environments.
Take the child from a homeless drug addict mother and you bet your ass he/she could be a world class linguist (well, assuming his mothers drug use didn't leave any brain damage.)
And one more thing, I'd consider anyone who can't do a task as simple as making hamburgers for a living to be rather dumb. Funny how things look from different perspectives, hm? Like I said, different types of smart.

So I take it you don't buy the idea that some people are better at something than you could ever be no matter how much you tried. The "proven" fact that some people are faster, stronger, more... springy than others can have the hope of being? That, there are superior beings that no measure of drive can overcome? This is generally accepted as true.

I assume you also don't ascribe to the belief that one's drive to succeed is part of who they are - a defining characteristic that's already taken into account when quantifying them?

That's true. And quite possible. But I believe that peoples motives have be taken into account too. Like a goal. Even if you have talent, without a purpose you won't be that amazing.
Bah, too much effort spent on one subject. I met a dude today fresh outa India, he's a hardcore Muslim and doesn't believe in any evolution theories. I was like "....wait, what?" lol I don't think i've ever met someone who didn't believe that we evolved from another species.

Recipe For Fake Cum by Hamilton G.

1 cup water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 raw egg white
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
pinch of salt

Dissolve cornstarch in 1/4 cup of water and set aside. Bring the remaining water and a pinch of salt to a simmer in a small saucepan, then stir the cornstarch to redissolve it and stir it in. Simmer and stir the mixture for about two minutes, it will be very thick. Cool the mixture thoroughly. If you don't let it cool the egg will get cooked. If you are impatient, set the pan in a bowl of ice and stir to speed the cooling. When cool, stir in the egg white and yogurt. Mix thoroughly with a wire whisk until smooth. If you want a little more flavor you can add 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract and some Equal or Splenda for sweetness when you add the egg.
