What recent anime that came out in the last year that amazed you with it's art or animation.

I'm mainly interested in movies but if you have series to recommend, go ahead.

Even better is if the story is good so if you like the story as well, let me know.

nah good art but from the previews I wouldn't say animation as well. I'm not too fond of the character art much either. They have some nice backgrounds though and effects.

I dunno, judging from that amv in that anouncments forum right now, it's got some pretty fricken nice animation.

Okay, this is really weird, not 2 hours ago I was contemplating making a thread asking for anime with great animation. O_o Sorry, but I don't pay enough attention to seasons to know what came out exactly last year.

Character design and Animation is just great in Kara.

Another anime would be Xam'd Lost Memories.

Damn good animation and design.

Macross Frontier can be another anime in the running.

Editing and art were fantasic, but I thought the animation was a tad overhyped tbh.

Reminds me of GITS SAC with great animated scenes at times but mostly panning and simple mouth movement.

I don't care much for the character design that much either.

This is based off some trailers and amvs I saw of it so far. Maybe good to check out I'm just sharing my impression of it.

I checked out some more videos of it. It's starting to look good. I'll give it a shot.

Nothing "stood out" as uniquely "special" for me actually, although I have witnessed several new shows I sure enjoyed.

I guess the "style" used is not as important to me as the smile factor.
If it makes me smile, job done.

Kara no Kyoukai has a few scenes with amazing animation, but overall it's annoying to see this amazingly animated scenes and then a totally unlovely animated scene :/

Macross Frontier's CG has impressed me the most.

Ef is stylish, not so much animation as such. More of the way it presents itself more than the actual technicalities of these presentations.

I still stand by what I said. While ef may be pretty as such, with some lovely masking scenes and lots of glowing shiny stuff, KnK doesn't even need to rely on that as it has characters with much better proportions, more realistic movements and more highly detailed background art.

In short, KnK doesn't even need to rely on effects to blow me away with its stunning animation, whereas ef, while pretty, uses a lot of other techniques to achieve the same result.
