From a new member...

I became introduced to anime gradually through anime-influenced US animation like Teen Titans and Avatar: The Last Airbender, both of which are excellent by the way. Since a good amount of the anime fan community was in the fanbases of both these shows, I was recommended several different programs based on the talk between fans. The first anime I sought after was "Blood+" while it was running on Adult Swim. Soon after I began "Blood+," I began watching "Cowboy Bebop" on DVD. After that, it was all over. I was hooked.

The main reason I watch anime is a personal one. You see, I'm a high-functioning autistic and proud of it. Sadly, this means my brain runs a thousand miles a minute while completing a very dangerous tightrope walk at the same time. Emotions are very pure to me, so to watch really upsetting things leaves me in a still fright. This fear, unfortunately, consistently competes with my desire to understand the world more, which can be a frightening place. So, what is a boy to do?

When I watch anime, it's the greatest compromise ever conceived by man. On the one hand, very intelligent anime will show characters and their world very three-dimensionally. There's gray areas, no easy right answers and pain we must all endure as a human race. So, through these situations I'm closer to understanding the way the world works. On the other hand, because it's animation, it never truly freaks out the small kid in me that's too shy to go into the world. Thus making a beautiful balancing act in my brain.

I've always needed anime, I just never realized it.

I watch anime becasue simply I think it's one of the best things out there . I've done plenty of things vacationing , outdoors , occasional hanging out . If i die and there's no anime in heaven i might be disappointed . :)
