(Note: The guy in this first story wasn't particularly dumb, just unlucky)

Back when we were doing PS1 titles, a co-worker burned SEVENTY CDs looking for a problem with his game. It would run on the emulator, but not on the test unit. At one point I asked him, "If the game isn't booting at all, why are you burning all the data too?" After going "oh yeah!", testing went a little faster after that. It turned out that the libraries on the burning machine happened to be corrupt. I was working on another game, but I wasn't quite ready to create a test build yet, so there was nobody else that might have given a clue that something was wrong with the machine. At least they were regular CDs, and not the stupid $25 CDs Sony demanded for sending final builds.

Then there was the time another guy accidentally sent an empty CD case to the publisher.

And this story is pretty crazy...

Typical... management never thinks about IT when they are looking for a place... and once they sign the lease... it becomes your problem.

Our current facility has plenty of warehouse space... but is a bit short on office space. Since we have several departments that don't really need to be at the warehouse... it was decided that they should look for an office more down town. They found a great place... even has a corner office over looking the College Football Hall of Fame. The problem... no one asked IT what to look for. After they signed the lease... it was discovered that... with out significant cost to ourselves... the best we could hope for was a T1 line The phone company is notoriously slow on installs... and honestly with as much data traffic as our developers and pricers (two departments moving) need... and add our VOIP phone lines a T1 is just not enough. Our busiest time of year is less than a month away... and they expect to be moved in before then.

Several of the other options they tuned down (because they weren't as pretty) had direct access to the same fiber loop as the secure data center that stores our servers. Someone needs some a good ass stomping.

I remember in like 3rd grade, there was this person everybody thought was a guy, and went by a guy name (not really a name that could be used for either sex) but it turns out that the person was a girl and nobody knew that till like 9th grade. Turns out the name was a nickname.

Is this your roundabout way of telling us that you're really a woman?

Yes... it was accused of sexual harassment and died of starvation when it couldn't find a job.
