VGMVs Spawn of Satan?

This forum is for the general discussion of Anime Music Videos.

My message wasn't to suggest that I'm beyond amateur.

If the site was AmateurMusicVideos, then anything that's a fanmade music video would qualify. My stuff, VGMVs, Vlad's Sci-Fi Music Videos (like his recently posted Poor Guys In Red video) - all of them would be eligable to be listed at that site. But at ANIME music videos.org, if it doesn't have anime, it doesn't belong.

I wasn't insinuating that I was a pro or anything, I was trying to come up with a name that would encompass any fan-made music video so I used the word "amateur" since that's usually what they're called, although in hindsight "fanmademusicvideos.org" would be a better choice perhaps.

That's how I read it, wonder if it's these kind of misunderstandings that gave you a bad rep.

Yeah really the only problem is the whole fact that there really is no place for VGMV's to go. at least no place as developed as here. If there was I'd be there. And Professional LOVED the Smash Bros. video.

Isn't the whole reason for the non-anime category to see what people create with non-anime sources, so we can see what other areas people like to dabble in? If you think that anything other than anime videos don't belong here, then you'd have to kick out AbsoluteDestiny's Megatokyo video,Wish You Were Here, and Big Big Trucks video with original drawings,The Littlest Editor, just to name a few. While these are not anime music videos per se, they also represent other interests in the creator's life and other ideas that they saw fit to work with beyond anime.

HURRAY!
This is my 1st post!

I haven't made any AMV's yet, only VGMV. But I just completed my Cowboy Bebop DVD Collection! So hopefully I will get around to makeing one with those! Yay!

All I really wanted to do is ask someone to come and take a look at my videos! I only have 2 of 5 uploaded, hopefully I will get more done later... Stupid 56K. Well anyway, I would really appriciate it if you gave them a chance and took a look at them :D !

You can find them <A HREF = "http://janusindustries.tripod.com/" TITLE = "Come take a look!">here</A>!

If I remember right from English class, "amateur" refers to anyone who does not get paid for what they do, which would include all of us. Professionals get paid. So AmateurMusicVideos.org could work.

Anyway, back on subject...

One of the only reasons I got into anime and anime music videos in the first place was because I got into Final Fantasy MVs first. I probably never would have started making anime videos right away, since Final Fantasy footage was much easier to get and use than ripping from DVDs. And one game is much cheaper than buying a DVD boxed set. So I think VGMVs are a good way to start out. I don't like to watch them so much anymore, but every now and then I come across some really good ones (ie. ShonenDizzyCow's The Last Indigo Sky and CGAnim8t0r's REMINISCENCE). So I don't mind them being on the site at all.

Thanks Dashoutrider! *thumbs up*

I'd love to attempt to make some kind of VGMV web center, but that would take away from my own editing time.

I don't think VGMV are all evil. True, most of them are done crappy, but there are a few great ones out there too, like CGAnim8t0r's Reminiscence.
Also why don't put VGMV up on the org? I think of it not only as a place for AMVs, but as a community for the creators. And when someone wants to make a good MV of a game, why not take a look at it?

I am currently working on another kind of VGMV. It's done to play-scenes of Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast. And I already put information about it on the org.

speaking of profesional music vids, ADV made one, it's cool ;-p (I consider it something different from the previews they mix cuz it's a song I recognize as not theirs *which in some respects makes it non-pro...* and it's about the full song (may be the full song...). It's on the Slayers OVAs, hidden ;-p animeondvd.com will tell you. (btw I noticed Ermac's a reviewer their -_-)

Hmm... Ermac was just saying that technically VGMVs don't belong here because they aren't anime. So yeah, technically, all non-anime videos shouldn't be on the site even though there is a category for them. I've liked some VGMVs so I don't mind them.

Sea of Stars is probably my favorite non-FF VGMV.

Feanor's made a few good VGMVs too. The first one I've ever seen was his Scum of the Earth video and it's still pretty good.

Technically all trailer, and parody vids shouldn't be allowed either. With or without anime, they aren't music vids. I really don't care though, I see Video game stuff and cosplay at every anime con. so I think it fits in.

I'll be waiting for the Skies of Arcadia video and the Jedi Outcast.. both favorite games of mine... as for VGMVs being a stepping stone into anime perhaps they are... I really started this thread to see what the general feeling was... I didn't really expect this much discussion... especially from alot of notable creators... I'm glad this is more of a debate and not just some flame thread where people insult each other's family lineage and whatnot...
