Simple Effect Question

Hello again.
I have yet another small AMV question.

This time, I'm working on a video which I want to have sort of a 'instant black screen' effect on. How to explain?
Well, I want the screen to turn black in a flash, and then become normal again so it fits to the drums in the song I'm using as BGM.
I hope you roughly understand what I'm talking about.

So the question itself would be, which program to use? And how to do it?

Just make a solid black image, and place it in a video track above all the other content for the duration you like.

Might I ask in which program I can do something like this?
Being a beginner, I am using Virtualdub. I can't seem to find the option to do what you say in it...

I think it's everyone's instinct to assume that everyone uses premiere.

Making a solid black image has nothing to do with video editing hardware or software... heck, you can just open MS Paint, create a 720x480 image, fill it on 100% solid black, save it as a bitmap, then import the bitmap into your video editor.

Im sorry but I dont see how in the world it would be possible to actually make a music video in Virtualdub... Get something else... Even windows movie maker would be better.

Exactly the same way you do with two vcrs.

Just do it digitally.

I haven't met a program that won't let you place a solid black image in your video. It's how I put my blank space in the videos. Pinnacle and Premiere let you do it. Often just drag the still image onto your timeline and crop it down to what you need.

Ah well, I guess I have to learn the bloody Premiere then... but it looks so daaaaamn advanced and hard to use.

Premiere looks hard at first but you get the hang of it really easy.
