Dude, you got the 8th Edition? Sweet! I gotta upgrade...

(To answer the topic: Nothing. Busy@work)

You should check it out. It's now upgraded with full color charts and graphs! :diesahorribledeath:

When classes stop killing my free time, I'm looking to start the Malcolm Gladwell books (The Tipping Point and Blink). Any opinions on which I should read first?

In the last month or so I've read some book about propaganda during WWII, a book about the war on terror, a book about various Mars missions, Manifold Time, and several of Cherryh merchant series books. Not sure what I'll read next though, probably more merchanter books since I seem to be on a kick for those at the moment.

Might I suggest neither series? The Incarnations on Immortality suffer the same problem every other Anthony book does, halfway through he turns into a raging pervert who can't resist slipping lengthy and boring sex scenes all over the place. IIRC for the incarnations series it happened with the book about gaia, started off with a 20 or 30 page rape scene.

As for Jordan, it's a cheap knock off of LOTR except longer. And more boring. And unfinished.

Working my way through my back catalog of David Sedaris books. Read his new When You Are Engulfed In Flames and so now I'm working on Dress Your Family In Corduroy And Denim.

I'm still halfway through Wizard And Glass (Dark Tower). Have been for nearly a year now. I just never feel like picking it up.. I don't know why.

In theory I should be reading Three Kingdoms, but video games keep me distracting from finishing the book (romance? gigantic pile of paper?).

I'm also gonna have to review my statistics textbook for next semester. :(

Personally I loved the Incarnations of Immortality series. I haven't read the last three though (Evil, Good and Night) cause for the longest time, I never knew that there were more then the first five books >_>

I'm in the middle of the Enders Shadow books. I've read the first two, but the others are in Chicago, so right now I'm not reading anything ;_;

With the exception of one or two books a year, I only read Star Wars books. Currently reading Jedi Trial, a Clone Wars Novel.

I've sort of run out of Star Wars books (having read about 140 of them so far), so I'm re-reading a lot. I buy a book every two weeks or so. Luckily, I get a significant discount, working at a book store. I still have a couple dozen that I wasn't all /that/ interested in, but I may work my way towards them, given that I picked up a couple that I didnt think I'd like (Namely, MedStar) and they turned out to be pretty good! I've been avoiding the X-wing series, but I might pick them up. For Corran's sake :P

Damnit... that was my first thought.

I really don't know how I feel about the Bean books. Ender's Shadow was awesome... but a lot of that was a retelling of Ender's Game. I probably should reread these... but I seemed to recall questioning some of Orson Scott Card's character and situational choices.

Right now... I'm patiently waiting for George R R Martin to finish the next installment of A Song of Ice and Fire.

By the way... all you book buyers... check out http://www.betterworld.com. We sell new and used books... and a portion of all sales go to various literacy organizations. Normally I wouldn't self-promote... but it's in line with the thread and I wouldn't work for them if I didn't believe in their cause. Actually... you can learn more about our company and it's impact on global literacy here http://www.betterworldbooks.com. Even if you don't buy anything from us... I urge you to find out what we are about. Heck... maybe you'll want to come work for us.

I used to think it was a retarded and unnatural way of sticking words together and contriving metaphors for when you could just SAY IT, in a normal and human way. I have since discovered several Russian poets whose work I read over and over, and even memorize on occasion. That's totally changed my mind.

I have noticed crap poets use a a hundred lines to say 'flowers are pretty' while a good poet can sum up the transience of human achievement in fourteen lines. I still don't like poems in general but after finding out not all of them are faggots sniffing flowers I enjoy some of them. The movie Dead Poets Society is what eventually made me decide some poets are decent even though oddly enough I hate almost every poem used in the movie.

If you don't want to read it, I'd gladly take if off your hands. It sounds quite (droll) informative for a primer.

My reading has fallen quite a bit recently I'd say, instead of any real books lately it's been science mags and The Economist.

As for finding places to buy books cheap, I've gotten good service from www.abebooks.com and many old books I'd never find elsewhere for a dollar.

I felt like it was too drawn out. They were obviously milking it with that one. Plus the end was really disappointing and anticlimactic. Vital reading, though, to get the story. If you decide to read it, I hope you have a nearby library. What you really want to read is Legacy of the Force. Fucking kickass right there. Unfortunately, the authors chose to rely heavily upon a lot of the story from The New Jedi Order and The Dark Nest Trilogy (which were ridiculous), so if you haven't read them you might get a little bit lost.
