Why am I finding out about this now?
And what's this about an anime movie? I thought the only DN movies out were live-action.

After the series ended they released 2 (or so) hour long directors cut of the whole series from ryuk's point of view with new footage (it just didn't get a theatrical release). it had stuff like L's funeral init. I haven't seen it yet though, so this is news to me.

well if he became one of them it makes sense. Since they refer to some one as "the old man" it seems the users of deathnotes since they cant go to heaven or hell would make perfect shinigami. Bet those cops died soon after prolly.

The manga says to the contrary. Besides, evidence suggests that humans wouldn't retain their memories of humanity after becoming Shinigami. They simply ARE. Nothing else.
Makes perfect sense to me. I mean really it doesn't take too much thought to figure out that if he doesn't go to heaven or hell, then what else is he gonna do. :P
That's really interesting if 'nothingness' is becoming a Shinigami. Although that's never stated in the manga which, for me, is the best source for information about any series.

Unless the manga was based on the anime or the anime was based on a visual novel and a manga was made seperately and is based on the visual novel and not the anime. Also works with light novels.

Garridy wrote:
If there was no heaven or hell then what was the point of him telling Light that users of the note don't go to heaven or hell in the first place? Sounds like a plothole to me. Ryuk wanted light to use the note. Why would he give a reason not to if the reason had no bearing?

Maybe he did it for the lulz.
It really made me sad when...
...Light's father died. He was a good cop, and a good man, through and through.
Light is really starting to tick me off, though. He doesn't care WHO dies to achieve his ends. The fact that he would kill so many innocents without a second though makes me wanna punch him sometimes...
