Name some of your tactical favs. I'm just curious if we have common ground.

Tactical games. Tactical games?! The ONLY ones worth playing of those are sims. What is there to realize from C&C? Nothing. Unrealistic, simplified, ridiculous. Starcraft is about as exciting as beating yourself with a plastic hammer, stabbing yourself with a knife, and using a musket about 500 years old to shoot yourself in the foot.

Paradox produces shit? I see no one else producing games with such a scope like theirs. Who else does grand strategy games that cover nearly a thousand years of history? Everybody elses focus is on one little pissy conflict, ooh, look at me, I'm conducting strategy in WWII, or, ooh, I'm jerking like Napoleon, watch me play this limited little campaign that ends no matter what you do, with a half-assed empire.

Hmm is he comparing C&C with Paradox?
Both games are worthless shit. Well worthless in that neither does much to simulate anything at all.

"Paradox produces shit? I see no one else producing games with such a scope like theirs." Just because no one else produces crappy games like Paradox doesn't mean Paradox wins by default.

"Who else does grand strategy games that cover nearly a thousand years of history?" All you get with a thousand years of shit, is, a thousand years of shit.

I'm not sure you've ever actually seen a real wargame before. So lacking a point of reference, the discussion is pointless.

You're not giving us a lot of references to go with either here, in fairness. I'm not sure why on earth Orwell brought in C&C, but it's unfair to go and call paradox "shit" either. Despite obvious deficiencies, at least several of their games I find extremely good, in particular HoI 2, especially when modded. I honestly don't see what one could call "shit" there - some of the balancing is occasionally wonky, but I've spent quite a number of sleepless nights over that. It's a very clever game and easily one of the best, if not the best, grand strategy ever made. What exactly is your problem with it?

I'm more of a Battlefront fanboy myself, my main tactical gaming steed is the Combat Mission series, but I've dabbled in a variety of things including Steel Panthers, Tactical Art of War, etc.; along with naval games that straddle the wargame spectrum like Carriers at War, Distant Guns, or Sonalysts' naval game series (though the latter is probably more in the simulation spectrum). As I said, my roots are in simulation games (originally just flights sims, but lately naval sims as well).

:O

I love tactical games, I just haven't found any that are really good.

I love the Fire Emblem series, though that's really just a dumbed down tactics game (though great for long trips).

I had a fetish with Empire Earth for a long time, but then it just got boring after a while.

Starcraft bores me to tears (since it's so much like Empire Earth, and when I played it I had just gotten tired of empire earth), although Starcraft 2 looks somewhat promising.

Slightly back on topic, I did manage to nab myself a nice copy of Mario Kart Wii, and the steering whell is fecking impossible to maneuver, although my little sister enjoys it immensly. I just stick with the gamecube controller. :O
