Effect help please

Oki guys this is bothering me alot like soo much..in this video Rrezz did in Adobe after effects 7...i wanted to know in the begginning how'd he made the gray textrue in the background, portions of it disappeared like brush strokes and showed a video behind those strokes.....

whoops i got so carry away about talking about the video i forgot about including my question.

Question: How do i get small portions of a background or solid in AE to disappear in a brush stroke transition>?

riot gear texture overlay is my guess (from your descritiption) as to what he did (without watching it, but you could ask him x_x and get the "how he did it answer")

as to your question: you could mask them out...

i asked him about that when it came out, he said that it was riot gear overlays
