Depends on the intro type... I usually like to create a different intro for each video I do, so they look more particular.

13 seconds for just a bumper are maybe a little to much, I don't know. Gotta see it to tell (and see how well it integrates with the video) :?

13 seconds is no problem. I've seen ones much longer. My intro is 24 seconds mostly because it relies entirley on scrolling text.

Heh...I made the thing in twenty minutes...

It has to be better than the bumper I did for one of my vids. It was 15 seconds of a still image fading in and out.

I currently have two bumpers made that are around 15 seconds or so, so you can see I have no problem with it. It all depends on how interesting the bumper is.

I personally don't believe in bumpers--I've only used 'em once, for the Wipeout video from the early 90's, and it was just a title card.

I much prefer to use MTV-style titling to introduce the gong, artist, and anime source and tag out the video with the JNV logo in a corner.

If I were to use the JNV logo to bump into a video, I would use the one I have that lasts no more than 5 seconds. Get in, get out, and show the video. That's my belief.

I just use white text on a black background -- it compresses better. It shows the video title, source anime, music, and album for 5 seconds, and then gets on with the show.

You don't really need anything else. The focus should be on your video, not how cool you can make an intro.
This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 512 character limit.

I am the bumpmaster, all must bow to my greatness an' bumptitude.
Anyway, my bumpers are around 30 to 40 seconds long, an' no one complains. I say the rule is to base the length of the bumper on the length of the vid. If the vid is less than 2:00, no bumper at all. If is' 4:00, about 30 seconds is good.

I totally agree. I find it's both pompous and irritating to have said bumpers in videos, whether the creator is intentionally doing so or not. It's all about the VIDEO and what emotions that video invokes, not who you are.

I really like just seeing some information briefly at either the beginning or end of the video (song, artist, anime, album, name of editor, maybe something else), preferably just in simple ol' text (as mentioned, white on black looks good). There's really nothing else you need. I understand the desire to set yourself apart from other creators by having neat bumpers, but to me as a viewer... you're making yourself look just LIKE the other people by HAVING a bumper :D.

Not to mention the poor viewers on dial-up that have to download a 20 second bumper to a video they're not sure if they want to watch, anyway... ^_~

Not necessarily so. I made a point of saying I felt your intro bump was too long for "Eva Ep.27" in my opinion there. And it's just about as long for the Love Hina video too, if I'm not mistaken.

It is, to speak for me personally, bordering on overkill. Do you really need 30 seconds to tell everyone who you are, when you've got 3-4 minutes' of AMV work that should speak for itself?

I usually put my studio's name, the anime and song used in the first seconds of my AMV, mixed to the footage. No bumbers (I find them quite annoying).

That is what I mean by MTV-style titling. It's a good way to go, in my opinion. I wish more people chose to do it.

Ick, I've gotta disagree with ya' :P

I always see it as somewhat "cheating" when people, during the beginning of the song that they're DOING a video to, put in things like the artist, song, and the footage they're using (like, "Using footage from TRIGUN"... no shit, I can SEE that it's Trigun!"). If you're using a song to do a video, why waste part of that song telling us what song it is?! Heh.

I just find that it heavily distracts from the story and mood of the video if I've got some text during the song telling me what I'm watching. I can find out for myself what it is I'm watching and listening to :P
