Are they cosplaying chobits or persocoms?

Guys cosplaying chii. Absolutely terrifying. :|

Well, either guys or not-so-good-looking girls. :|

Trust me, I couldn't tell the difference there. (Also, pic taken from a friend's blog)

I have seen some girls cosplaying girl anime roles, that were unable to cosplay the part better than some GUYS cosplaying the same girl anime role.

It happens.

Well it usually only happens when the girl is without wanting to be harsh GODDAMNED FAT.

Yeah, everyone wants to cosplay, even greatly overwieght girls.

But when a GUY can look better as Sailor Venus, even with an unshaven face and a not much effort put into it wig, simply because he's not 250+ pounds dry, then it's time for the girls that ARE over 250 pounds to suck it up and not bother :)

I am pretty sure anyone that's been to recent Anime North cons will support me.

Heck I've even noticed that the Yaoi crowd is usually better at looking like a girl than actual girls :)

It takes more than real tits to dress up as a female anime role.

No idea how this got onto cosplay, but anyway, reply times O:

Funny Idea, but it will never be more than an Illusion.

Kyon has to be male !! :? but it would be funny if he was a cute girl. Anyway, then would male Haruhi dress up in a Buny Costume   NEVA !!!

If they were all lesbian girls ^^ That'd be nice thought.

I don't think it's sick 'n weird, I think the idea poses a rather interesting question. I mean, some events would be completely different once their genders were reversed, for example, Haruhi (as a guy) kicking the computer club president (as a girl) would be just... wtf. Not to mention this scene here:

As for the bunny suit issue, it's actually been discussed on animesuki (I gave the link in my first post, have fun reading through the 40+ pages to find it.

Lok1990 wrote:Love this idea, I like both the female version of koizumi and kyon XD

Lmao I know, actually suddenly Koizumi's gayness seems to be a whole lot more acceptable now xD

Like this...

But, I tend to like shows for their own original magic, so while I don't think anything ill of the notions put forward here, I like the original cast make up of The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi as it is.

There's something specially addictive about how Haruhi is drawn. And the other personalities also have their charm I think because they were crafted well.

Yeah well, this is just a fan made project, and I can't help find the entire concept really interesting.

Savia wrote:This is either unadultered genius or derivative drivel.

Jury's still out but solid character designs and an interesting premise are leading me on towards the former right now

Yeah. Actually if you read the thread things have started moving in a strange direction. Not only have fans on the internet all agreed on the character designs, but they are dealing with other issues that genderbending the show would bring.

Ruby-Eye wrote:Ok maybe I’m a little biased here, but I think Kyon and Ibuki might work as girls, but for Haruhi and Mikuru, I don’t think they would make good boys.

I mean Haruhi, when a girl talks about that she is only interested in aliens and that stuff and she does all this weird things it’s still consider kind of cute by others (ok mostly by males :P ), but if it’s a boy he would probably be consider some kind of strange geek.

As for Mikuru, a cute little boy might work, but not as well as our cute, shy, clumsy fanservice-device!

Yuki, well I don’t think it really matters if she’s a girl or boy, but I still prefer the girl! :D

Of course that is if they keep their currant personalities, if they get new/other personalities that might work. But than it’s not a genderbending but different characters that only resemble them.

Still the idea is interesting. I´m still supporting the all-girl version!!!!

Oh and that 4koma about Yuuki requesting Kyon-ko to come to his room is absolute win!

Yes. Kyon and Koizumi would make good girls o3o

As for your other points, they have already been discussed and dealt with on the official thread for the project on animesuki. You'd be surprised how well Haruhi and Mikuru translate into guys.

After reading through those 42 pages (*gasp* I did it), I think that this is pure win in every of its aspects and therefor I demand for more.

And indeed Kyon-ko X Itsuki FTW.

I read 5 pages of that suki thread.

Well they sure have put a lot of thought into it.

Seems like a lot of work, and some of the original story seems really just like a lot of work to convert just so the plot remains rigidly unswerving.

What interests guys in anime, is usually not very similar to what interests girls in anime. You can't always swap genders, and forcibly make a story remain relevant even if you can manage to excuse away the genders though.

But I did see a lot of cleverness in the project over all.
I have to admit though, I found that my anime dictionary is sadly lacking :)
But I don't devote a lot of time to yaoi and yuri terminology routinely.

A good anime though is a good story with pictures. Sometimes swapping genders merely buggers up the story. For instance would you really give a shit if the Mona Lisa was a smiling guy?

I bet the gender switch story notion would be easier on the fans doing it, if they swapped the genders, and did a totally different script.

I would have problems beating off to a person who was once a man. :/

Too much time, too much talent, too much imagination, not enough real life to keep them too busy :)

Like I said earlier, I have no problem with either yaoi or yuri. I just prefer the anime or situation be written as yaoi or yuri in the first place. It makes the stories make sense on the first go.

They for instance, had to bust a brain cell justifying why or how a peculiar boy would be able to strong arm female computer geeks out of a free computer.
In the original anime it was simple.

But all you get from a male making a forced concession from a girl through employing anything sexual in situation is a rape, or at least sexual harassment charges. And the guy doesn't get the computer.

It was funny in the actual anime, and worked because those guys were terrified of being charged with the same charges. And the courts rarely believe the guy.

Sometimes creative fiction simply doesn't work because it's illogical.

Yeah I know, most of anime is illogical :)
But there's a limit on suspension of disbelief in some things :)

This scares me because nobody mentioned beating off to anything o3o

Also, gender bender Hare Hare Yukai?

Also, after seeing a picture of Haruki in a slightly less manly form, I can't decide which would be more appropriate:

I think for the most part all the fan artists have agreed on the second Haruki as the "official" way to draw him, but who knows?

Also, I read through a few of the stories they've translated, they are doing a good job of keeping faithful to the original script, but it also feels a lot like it's just replacing all the "hes" with "shes" and vice versa. Some situations with reversed genders would be pretty funny though.

I would concur, that selection two wins, and three is plain right out of the running.

But a question... is the yellow ribbon just a device to aid in identifying the Haruhi replacement, or are we to assume a guy actually would wear a yellow ribbon like that, or is it already planned he would be queer?

It's supposed to be a headband, but yes, I was thinking that as well... We know Haruhi is already a weird person, but wearing a headband as a guy is not something I see him doing.

YOU PEOPLE ARE SICK! HILARIOUS AND SICK!
Gender bending is funnier irl though. Kyon already acts like a little bitch, so switching to a girls isn't that big of a leap.
