Stuff you'd like to see become an anime

Postby CorpseGoddess » Mon Feb 18, 2008 7:09 pm

Pardons if this has been broached before, but...

...what works would you like to see be made into anime? Right now I can think of three off the top of my head:

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter by Laurell K. Hamilton (from the comic---c'mon, it's covered in bishies! It's perfect!)

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King (I think the episodic nature of this would make a fantastic story for anime to explore)

The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock (ha ha! Look at his name! Okay, I said it first to get it out of the way) (This is a fantastic series with a definite "look" to it in the literature that would be fantastic if translated correctly into anime)

Anyone else?

The Meredith Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton would make one hell of a hentai.

About Antia Blake, if you've read the books it's all innocent until about book 6 where she starts becoming a a whore of phenominal proportions and i was impressed with book 15 the author managed to avoid any sex until at least 10 chapters in (as opposed to the usual 3 pages :\ ) So perhaps book 16 will get further back into the actual story which is what most of her readers have been complaining about (oh and if it were an anime we'd finally see the death of all the fucking annoying characters like Richard).

Vampire Earth novel series by EE. Knight - which is not really about vampires (they are blood sucking aliens possessing humans as puppets to feed) post apocalyptic world where the native american main character kicks some serious ass while sustaining injuries and scars that stay with him forever showing he's not super man, unlike anita blake has become :[ plus there crap all sex and much more story.

I've read all the Anita Blake books and yeah, it was getting a bit tiresome with chapter-long sex romps and little to no actual story. Hopefully she's getting herself back on track.

And hell yes to Meredith! That would be a hentai I'd actually *watch*.

Oh, and (forgot this and can't edit) The Crow is an excellent idea. They should go to the novels after the first movie, though. They were really well done and not spewed from the bowels of hell like the second and third movies.

x2... though they are trying to make a movie. Card has even said he will write the script... but I haven't heard more.

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
I mean... how much anime is based around Snow Crash and/or Ender's Game anyway? they deserve their own creations.

Maus by Art Spiegelman... it did win a Pulitzer after all...
Sandman by Neil Gaiman
Kingdom Come by Alex Ross
The Stranger (L'etranger) by Albert Camus

I agree so much with the dark tower. I love that book series, would love to see it as an anime.

Interesting question.

By the way, they already have Clone Wars animation.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Dune series made into anime. Lots of room for space tech there. Strange worlds, interesting creatures, exotic fighting styles.

I'm already getting Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth as mainstream film, happy happy happy.

They are also doing Terry Brooks Shanara as real film too, happy happy happy.

I think Stargate would be cool done into anime. The licensing though would be astronomical.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

Wow, these are all great ideas.

I have to throw in the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey---lots of stories for that one.

Sandman by Neil Gaiman

Mage by Matt Wagner

ElfQuest by Wendy and Richard Pini

I thought about Dune... but I just don't think you could do justice to the books. Neither of the movie versions are even close. I guess if you had an extended series... at least 30 episodes.

I feel the same about George R R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series
