Pre-registration is officially open for METROCON 6, Florida's largest anime convention, via the convention Web site at http://www.metroconventions.com. The event's sixth year is scheduled for the weekend of July 18 - 20, 2008, at the Tampa Convention Center, Tampa, FL.

METROCON is a weekend-long celebration of the numerous facets of Japanese popular entertainment, from anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), J-pop and J-Rock (Japanese pop and rock music, performed by “idols”) to cosplay (costume design and performance) and video games.

Events at METROCON this year includes:
The Original Anime Human Combat Chess Match, Year 5

I've been to every Metrocon so far and I'm not ready to break that streak, yet. I'm so there. Looks like prices for passes went up though :|

New Guests Announced!
METROCON 6: Florida's Largest Anime Convention
July 18-20, 2008

TAMPA BAY, FL, June 27, 2008 - METROCON, Florida’s largest anime convention, is pleased to announce additional guests for its sixth annual convention scheduled for the weekend of July 18-20, 2008, at the Tampa Convention Center in downtown Tampa.

Greg Cipes (Teen Titans, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, W.I.T.C.H.) will be making his first appearance at METROCON. The popular actor/musician can currently be heard in the role of Kevin Levin in the Cartoon Network animated action series Ben 10: Alien Force.
Cipes and the People, the California-based reggae/pop band fronted by Greg Cipes, will perform during the convention. The band was featured on MTV's Twentyfourseven in 2006 and enjoyed some success with "Free Me", the first single from their debut album.
David Stanworth is the writer/artist of the webcomics Snafu Comics and TIN: The Incompetent Ninja and webmaster at snafu-comics.com. Started in 2002, the site is now the home of over a dozen titles including Powerpuff Girl Doujinshi, Grim Tales, and Sugar Bits.
Select Start, the six-member band noted for their live performances of video game music at conventions across the state of Florida, will be performing during the con.
DJ Heavygrinder regularly appears before capacity crowds in venues throughout North America, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Her debut album, Eternity, combines Heavygrinder's original music mixed impeccably with hits by artists from around the world. The disc's first single is titled "Mind Eraser".

Other previously announced guests scheduled to appear at METROCON include Greg Ayres, Steve Bennett, Johnny Yong Bosch, Ashley Clark (Anna May Belle), Eyeshine, Lauren Goodnight, Ya Ya Han, Scott McNeil, Doug Smith, and David Williams. Events scheduled to be held during the convention this year include:
Original Anime Human Chess Match, Year 5 - First presented at METROCON in 2004, this colorful and action-packed event returns for its fifth year. Come and cheer for your favorite characters as the forces of Light and Dark clash in an epic battle to decide the fate of the world. Will the gear shattered last year be made whole again?
METROCON Fantasy Masquerade - METROCON's interactive formal dance returns with new characters and surprises. Come join the fun and show everyone your mad moves on the dance floor!
The Superhero Stunt Show - The Heroes Alliance returns to perform an exciting show featuring some of your favorite superheroes and villains.
Anime Idol Competition - METROCON's annual J-Pop/J-Rock contest will showcase ten talented individuals/groups as they compete to become this year's Anime Idol.
Cosplay Carnevale - New for METROCON 2008, this event combines the costume and cosplay contests of previous years. Awards will be presented for costume construction, skit presentation, and a combination of the two.
