An opening title scene

Post by mercythrill » Sat Jan 19, 2008 12:57 pm

This isn't a very complicated special effect question, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.

I want to do some nice simple blurbs leading up the video. Short and sweet. Maybe three, separate lines of text on a blank background.

Thing is, I've always sucked at fonts.

So I guess I'm asking for a little spoon-feeding. f I wanted to go for a nice, simplistic format, what would be the best way to go?

Black background? White font? Times New Roman? Something fancy? Scrolling? Crawling?

I was able to do 4 minutes of video with (relative) ease about the story I was trying to tell. This stupid intro, however, has me stumped. I'll take basic, beginner tips if you got 'em. And thanks.

Honestly, I've always had a soft spot for plain ol' Helvetica (or Arial, though its a more limited family). 16 pt Helvetica Bold with negative tracking is hawt.

I second Helvetica, and I'd also like to suggest Presence.

I'd like to know, however, if you can supply some information about your video's setting and theme(s). Typography can go a long, long way in a supporting role.

What do you mean by "negative tracking"?

Hehe Thinking With Type was our textbook in Digital Typography :P There were actually several things in there that I didn't personally agree with. I think negative tracking can be perfectly acceptable in certain situations (in the example shown, it's a large body of text, and in that case, of course it shouldn't be used. With my example, it'd primarily be used for something like a heading, which can look really nice with the tracking tightened up some, provided that the kerning is all even and the characters have at least SOME breathing room).
