Same song/many AMV projects?

Postby SarahtheBoring » Tue Nov 05, 2002 8:27 pm

Other than the "Harvey the Wonder Hamster" thing, has any group of AMVers given themselves a particular song and then seen what the different people do with it?

Just curious. I thought I might like to see the results of something like that. (Of course, I could just go and look for good songs with many videos to them, but I wondered about organized campaigns first.)

Thanks, either way. :)

Was Harvey the Wonder Hamster done taht way? I just thuoght all the versions were finally compiled together. Outside of that I don't think such a project has been done.

I would be interesting though, if a project was ever done that way. More so if it was done to the SAME anime, to purely show the difference in style of the creators. :D

That'd make for an interesting, if redundant, compilation of videos.

I agree, it would be interesting to see the difference in style of the seperate editors using the same song and anime. Although, I think it'd work best with a song/anime combo that doesn't lend itself to the same obvious imagery choices, such as (best example I can come up with at the moment) Chop Suey and Cowboy Bebop. Some interesting and bizarre anime/song combo to really test their creativity, something that doesn't readily jump out at you as being "perfect" for the anime, like Serial Experiments: Lain with Walking on Sunshine.

Or something like that.

Once me and ShonenDizzyCow had a discussion exactly like that. Though now I have forgotten which music/anime that we considered doing as a parallel project.

AMV Parallel Project. That would make a good title...

From what I've seen and been downloading I think a MST3K compilation is in order. We've allraedy got Eva and Nadesco.

Everyone in the AIM chat room should do a "Take on Me" project since that's always the song on everyone's mind.

So the amv parallel project shall consist of:

Song: Take on Me
Subject: Bukkake

Dude, I just don't get the appeal of bukkake - BUT you have successfully tainted "Take On Me" for the next five years ;)

And I'm not even in the chat usually! Whew.

Anyhow, same song/same anime would be interesting, but I'd even enjoy same song/different anime, to see how people interpret the song - best done with a song that is a bit difficult or vague or even artsy. Or, of course you could go the other way and do comedy.

Hmm.

So, we've got a project name, but no people involved, no song chosen, and no one to organize it.

Sounds great, where do I sign up? :P

But seriously, I like this idea. And being as she brought it up, I think that Sarah should organize it :)

But seriously, 'Take on Me' is a really lame song to use for any amv attempt.... Something with more substance or clever lyrics would work better.

And no, not 'Bohemian Rhapsody' because as anyone can clearly see, there's a couple Evangelion videos done to it already :D The difference in quality is noticeable...

I think "Take on Me" could be really cool for an AMV, if done right... One could shoot live action footage of an anime fan who falls in love with his/her favorite character, do a whole crazy rotoscope of said anime character... it would be a tough project I've thought of taking on. Can you tell? Well, it wouldn't actually be THAT difficult, if someone were willing to put that kind of time into a project they weren't getting paid for... jeeze, I'm going to get excited about that idea again. Damnit. I hate you all.
