Do you think paying up to $25 for 3-5 episodes is a waste of money?

Compared to the Japanese MSRP of at least $50 for a measly 2 or 3 episodes, we got the better deal overall. And there's buying anime DVDs in other places like Best Buy, and the deals got so much sweeter (I could buy the first volume of Simoun which has the first 6 episodes for $15)!

Not at all. I think $25 for a single (anime) DVD is a pretty good deal.
(considering where I live, anyway)

That's a good deal compared to the $30 or more around here, and you should just by box sets, better deal.

I definitely like a volume to be about $20, and get kind of annoyed if it's above $35, unless it inlcludes the whole series.
I am being hesitant to buy the Haruhi box specials that come $50 each.
Can anyone tell me if they're worth it.

I generally wait for box sets of shows I like. I tend not to buy Anime DVDs of series I havent seen yet. If I want to start a new series, I usually go to Netflix.

I haven't bought any anime I wasn't confident I could resell (R2s). Everything I currently own was either a gift or a prize from a contest. Now that isn't to say That they're too expensive in general, just too expensive for me to buy with $40k of debt on my shoulders.

Madman in Aus overprice their stock, it's much cheaper to actually buy on-line, I got the entire Mahoromatic Seasons and specials for $50 US, here their offloading each season for $69.95 and movies for another $30 each...
US - Aus: 89c
GBP - Aus: 48c

So yeah, in the end purchase from another country ...

However, when they have deals on (especially at Manifest) you can collect box sets for $30 each instead off up to and over $100

x2 for RightStuf.

One of the first threads I started on this site was a bitching session about how lousy the prices were for anime. One of the members here (I forget who) pointed out the sales at RightStuf and that's all it took. Make a list of everything you want. Then when RightStuf does a sale, match it with the stuff from your list.

For instance, you can pre-order the Remix edition (entire series) of Cowboy Bebop for less than $38.

If you think about it, buying anime DVDs is like buying movie sequels. You get the same amount of video in each usually so the price is reasonable.

$25 for 4-5 eps would be reasonable, but 3... no. If you're gonna buy a series with only 3 eps per dvd then just wait for boxset or thinpacks.
