Pinnacle Studio Help

Postby TwiSteDCBloSsoM » Sun Jan 13, 2008 8:35 pm

OK so I am using Pinnacle Studio Plus 11

I got the program a while back but couldn't use it till I updated my ram.

I'm having some problems when saving my videos. At the moment I'm just saving a preview of the video to see how it's turning out since I can't really play them without lagging in the programs video window..

now I have the option to have my video as: .avi , Divx, ipod compatible, MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Real Media, Sony PSP compatible and WMV

so I don't want to save it as .avi because file will end up to large with the size I want the video to be... -well the estimated project size is like 80MB or more for just my 30 second preview.

So I want to convert to MPEG, now with pinnacle I have tried converting to all 3 different MPEG's and I've selected different presets but no matter what combination I use I end up with a big green line at the bottom of my video... or it's the big green line and the video is also discolored and is mostly pink.

at this point I'm getting really annoyed... I'm not going to do anything fancy to save my video... I don't want to work with overly huge files to have super great quality.. I'm working with episodes I ripped myself that have an Xvid codec.... and before you say anything about that.. I know it's not great to use those for quality... but I don't care... I'm not going to take forever to make a video using all those fancy methods.. it's just not me, plus it's not like my videos are going to do anything special... be hosted to youtube... go on veoh.. and go on my ipod...

what I need right now is to be able to save my video (finished video under 100MB) and for the green line to be gone when I save them

does anyone know why the green line keeps popping up when I'm saving?

So you know what you're doing wrong and don't care. And don't want to do it correctly or be told to.

Well, good luck with your video.

pretty much what bashar said, your problems seem easy enough to fix at first glance but it would be using one of those 'fancy techniques' that you talk of, so noone here can really help you

..Save your "Projects AS" and do not export what you have; that will save disc space.

People Make AMV's with Divx and Xvid videos everyday... some of us don't have the room to work with anything but the files we already have... not to mention I do NOT have enough RAM to work with the huge files.

and I know for a fact that it is not my videos being Xvid thats causing the problem. My friend Raven Makes videos with pinnacle all the time and uses Xvid files and she's never had this problem.

and I'm sorry to seem mean but what Bashar said was pretty rude... not everyone can use non Xvid/Divx Videos.

what will work for one person won't necessarily work for another, your friend has a different computer and probably different specs and such which is why it works for them...

and there are many valid reasons not to use xvid as a source to edit with

if lagarith or huffyuv are too large for your computer to handle there is a nice list of editable codecs in the eadfag guide that is not hard to find, try out one of those...

XVID and DIVX are known to be highly buggy and it IS more than likely what is causing you problems

just because you dont use xvid or divx codecs for editing doesnt mean you cant do some of the other stuff. using vdub/avisynth would enable you to crop off those ugly green borders without affecting the file type in any way. having a lossless codec isnt the ONLY thing those 'fancy programs' are for, people use them to clean up footage (yes downloaded and bad codec footage) or remove those small things that pop up like ur green bar, or flickering lines, or perhaps sharpen details or other small technical issues. so when you said you didnt want any of that, you severly limit the amount of help anyone here can give.

think of it like saying "i want to write a book, but i dont want to use a computer id like to do the whole thing by hand, whats the easiest way of fixing my spelling mistakes that come up?"

when you do that you only have the option to save the project as .stx

and sadly that still doesn't help me in saving it so I can watch it.

I don't want to use them because my computer has problems with them. Now if I could afford a new computer I probably would.. but at this point in time I can't use them. On top of that I don't really have all the time.
All I want to do is make and AMV with better quality that WMM, and just not have the green line.. thats it >.<

How large would a DV video end up?

sorry if I sound snippy with anyone.. it's just I'm trying to find the easiest way for me to make amv's with my limited time and with my crap of a computer. I'm just trying to get all my ideas made before March. See after March I have 2 surgeries coming up to fix holes in my ear drums and there is the possibility that I will end up completely deaf... and then I won't be able to enjoy music any more... so I'm also frustrated with trying to get the amv to save

Ok another question if I'm going to have to convert everything to MPEG... DV I found is still to large for me to work with...

anyway when I convert the episodes (I'm using SUPER) do I keep the container as .avi or do I switch it to MPEG 1 or MPEG 2

then the same with the codec which MPEG codec do I use?

I have eovideo now... so hopefully that helps me... vegas keeps crashing on me... and so does premiere..

then frameserver wasn't working right so I couldn't use .avs files... right... all in all I'm just fed up... so I'm just going to take forever to convert all my videos... and then deal with the fact that they are interlaced and hope things end up looking ok... like I said I'm not doing anything horribly special with them so it should be that big of a deal.
