Take a look at the two again today, and tell me if that's the issue. Oh, that's right. You have to deal with them in IRC.

I've never thought of it that way, but the IRC and the AIM have swapped spiritual places. AIM used to be a dumping-ground for the entire community. IRC used to be a niche hangout for regulars. Now it's the opposite.
However, if #AMV is where the entire community has gone, then fucking put a stop to the childish bans so I can stop feeling like the place I knew is gone. Phade? Are you reading?

I remembered when I was kid my grandma always took me to the bank with her so she could get her pot money/buy me that latest shiney Optimus Prime Toy. The transactions of Cash from the bank would take a long time for my grandma's social Security check to go through. That or I was seriously impatient and early anticipated that red shining Truck that would transform into the coolest Robot version of christ ever so I could make him fight my Joker Action figure when it's obvious that Batman/Transformers don't fit so well together. I wanted to cry and throw my hissy fit. But, I also Enjoyed the candy the Bank would always give to me for being such a good behaved littled shit. I always wanted the Cherry Flavored Sucker they would always give me. Since I always kept screaming "The Red Kind" through the speaker.

It was only hour later when my grandma finally got her pot money and I was rewarded my usual Cherry Flavored Tootsie Pop I was rewarded for being such a behaved kid. At the end of the day I was truely greatful for the cherry tootsie pop, and My Optimus Prime Transformer. I now had a friend for Batman to fight against the Joker for my treasured Toys.

K, 15 years later I'm 20 and I go to the bank to cash in MY pot money and computer parts. The bitch at the bank who was suppose to cach my check was too busy bitching about his boy who wanted that new Transformer's Movie Edition Optimus Prime for Xmas but never got it to due she got Shoryuken'd by some other woman at the Wal-Mart Store. She Took HOURS I tells ya.

Hour later she hangs up the phone and I give her my check I recieved from my Grandma for Xmas. 3 min. later she gave me the check and I asked her..."Wheres my Cherry Tootsie Roll". She mentions how That the Banks (At least where I lived) Don't do that anymore. So i left out of that bank with Nothing but a hour's worth of Waisted time in my hands and this 200 dollar cash to blow on pot/video games/anime ect.

This is exactly what your sounding like to me TAB.

TJ, Atomx, Inthesto and Surprisingly Requiett have clearly kept telling you this. Your trips at the bank in your days are probably not the same as mine.

Deal with change and stop your complaining. I remember back at winmx where we used to make amvs for eachother, we were friends and everything. Then the org was born and everyone stepped up their game from there on.

Your expierience in 2003 were probably different from mine in that year. I could say how much 2003 sucked.

Euphoria was made in 2003, I thought that sucked at the time. of course there would be those who said diff.

I believe the permanent ban was put in place for saying "sup niggas?" but I'll have to consult my logs. This wretched linguistic transgression was particularly outstanding because two years prior I made the gross mistake of posting a link to a girl with pretty eyes.com in the channel, and so was under heavy scrutiny by moderation. Of course, at that time I had just come back from a long hiatus, and when I had left a girl with pretty eyes linking was still an AMV chat tradition. It became apparent that things had already changed dramatically by 2005.

Edit: Found it.

[8:02pm] aesling set a ban on *!*@ZiRC-654BBAC5.phlapa.east.verizon.net.

Basically AES got offended at my tongue-in-cheek use of clearly highly-sensitive racial slurs and the "moderation team" decided to submit to her authority for whatever reason, despite the fact that Alan, Jay, and occasionally Jeremy are generally sensible people.
The funny thing is, I used to be ops and a member of #amv-staff. But that was before any of the kiddies that run the place today took over. NME and I watched that place spiral out of control after birthing it with the cooperation of AD. This kind of thing is exactly what I was talking about in the original post.

I'm just going to do a quick comment here before I head to work. In my experience here, change only comes by when there's a "squeaky wheel" and, you know, the squeaky wheel always gets the grease. It also seems that the grease seems to tighten the seize more than anything else to a point where things just don't turn anymore and you just don't find it useful.

Stupid analogy but fair I think.

Tab, honestly there were many retarded things in 2003 and you know this. The problem is really that you were 'in' back in 2003 and you were among the group that could bend the rules cause everyone'd be all 'lololol tab' and nothing would happen if you did violate chatroom rules.

Well, I honestly got into the community more after 2003. Sure, I miss the old OT. But the new group is just as awesome. Just that it's better not to try and wage war on them and make life difficult for the current mods and such. Also, as much as I don't want to turn this thread in that direction (and I know that this is probably what this is about to start with), but your quote there isn't the whole story with aes booting you :|

Unfortunately I don't think many people are gonna give you respect and cred, even if you deserve it for stuff you did way back, cause a lot of people either don't know who you are or you haven't been around long enough for them to care. Instead of trying to assert yourself and raising shit, at least try to see why those of us who are around like the place. Honestly, the .org changed a huge lot since I joined, but I'm nowhere near leaving. Cause believe it or not, there is actually a pretty good community here.

You're right, Oto, and I appreciate the reply. My problem is that I want to like the community again, and I'm having a hard time because the cliques have changed. Some of the faces are the same (most have left), but they've mostly succumb to this weird new "we don't give a shit who you are if you offend one of our own" moderation gang. Which is all that happened. Requiett and I are banned because aes didn't like us. There's no real justification, and if there is, I've yet to hear it. None of what went on even followed the "due process" laid out in the chat rules or necessarily violated the chat rules. Moreover, squabbling over shit like that shouldn't even be a question. Politics should never interfere with the community. And if anyone thinks I haven't been a serious contributor to the community since 2002, all they need to do is look at my posting history. Maybe aes should have done her homework before letting that PMDD fly off the handle.
I want to be able to re-join the community. That's why I paid to access DF. That's why I still post in Video. That's why I'm still butthurt about the IRC ban. But I can't, because, as Kalium so gleefully informed me, the community mostly exists in #amv, and I'm fucked out of that for stupid reasons. And there's no real metamoderation to go to to call foul, just a bunch of individual moderators sitting around going "oh well I don't want to get involved in that."

Thanks, guys. Thanks for forgetting everything about what this place once was.

Well, sorry to hear that. I think you should of at least got a warning. It could be personal. Favoritism? Power tripping/abusing(sorry, I get that one from the Navy)? A misunderstanding? Maybe they have a new system where you can't break any rule and no warnings are given?

Sorry about how you're being treated and not even getting any explanation of why you are being treated badly.

I remember the good old days...song game anyone? I think I remember that time a little more fondly because I was actually editing consistently. Now, I dont even consider myself an AMV maker anymore, especially since I haven't watched an anime series in years. That said, most of the people I considered friends back then are still around and are the same great people (at least to me). I also have enjoyed talking to the newer people in the community when I make the occassional visit to IRC, I think it's just a matter of adapting (like others said) and trying to get to know the next generation.

Oh man, WTH happened to Nailz? He was good people...BTW, I propose bans from IRC chat be limited to 1 year (except for spam bots), kind of like parole. At the end of the year, I think the ban should be lifted and the user be given a chance to rejoin the chat pending they don't do anything to get banned again (I know that can be subjective). Permanent bans just seem too extreme and cause so many of the older crowd to be felt left out, especially if they matured over the year and don't plan on repeating the offense that got them banned the last time.
