Vegas doesn't accept AVI video formats.

Postby ketsuekiko » Sun Jan 06, 2008 3:42 am

Okay I have recently bought a new computer. I transferred all of my anime, music, and programs and such onto my new computer. Before I transferred my Sony Vegas 7.0 accepted AVI Video formats. However, on my new computer I am unable to use AVI Video formats in Vegas. Any theories on why it's like this?

Not that I know of. They are DVD ripped episodes.

Probably the same problem I am having. Is there only audio but no video?

OH! I am not sure this is relevant or not, but since my AVI files stopped working my Sony Media Manager won't either. Could this be a reason why my AVI files won't work?

naw my media manager crashes on me all the time and Vegas still works..

to get codec information right-click on the video file, and choose "properties" and click the tab that says "summery" it should be listed next to compression and if that doesn't work, get a program called GSpot and drop the file in it

Okies, it seems my file IS encoded with Divx...*even though I don't have that program on my computer....* I personally ripped these DVDs, ah well I will just convert them to MPEG-2. Thanks for the help. ^^

Argh! I meant to say re-rip them in MPEG-2 format. Not convert them.

rip them with dvd decryptor and convert them with virtualdub mod... if you save your clips with lagarith or huffyuv Vegas will love you (though maybe not your HD cause they take up filespace... so make short clips and only the ones you need if your HD is limited :3 heh)

Well I have like 1880 GB on my hard drive, but about 30 anime series ^^; I think I should be okay with them in Huffyuv...Also what exactly is clips only you need. You never know WHEN you will actually need a scene or not right? ^^;

Uh... some people actually storyboard and plan their videos ahead of time. It's not that outrageous of a suggestion.

I usually do the same. I've had this one AMV planned for about half a year. However plans can change.

this might be true, but some people dont have the HD space to change their plans too much
