Should we consider The Boondocks or Avatar:TLA to be anime?

This forum is for the general discussion of Anime.

Call me a bitch, but I see no need to get everyone's hackles raised over this. Even though I'm not a fan of Teen Titans, someone else may be & want to see a video of it. They'll see it as a great opportunity; I'll see it 'not something I want to download'.

Isn't that where it ultimately stops? If you want it in your computer, download it; if not, you have the right to veto/jettison that sucker.

Besides, I'm sure there are already sites *cough 'craptube'* that cater to this. Not to be a kiss-ass, but this isn't MY site or YOUR site. It's Phade's, he started it and it's at his discretion.
Now, don't feel bad. It's not you, it's me. I Don't Like You. -.-

Don't ever suggest Youtube for fanmade music videos. Yeah it will get you some recognition for awhile, but it's only a matter of time before they delete it for copyright infringement. Heck a WWE music video I uploaded was deleted within a day. And after so many times your account is just flat out banned.

Not saying we should allow avatar, boondocks, or any other american animation or live action either for that matter. I'm just pointing out that Youtube isn't an option either. Infact aside from anime, I don't know of any options for a place to upload music videos.

Sorry for the double post, but I'd just like to point out that since I haven't been on the forums in along time. I didn't realize that there was a filter to block the tube word.

Science fiction shows/movies are big with this. I know that Dallascaper's Farscape site has been around for at least 10 years and hosts hundreds of fan-made videos, wallpapers, fanfic etc.

I could've sworn this topic was brought up and shot down before, obviously we're still on the subject.

The Org already has got rid of all the non amvs back at 2004 or 05, I ferget but I'm sure those would still be included in the non anime category.

The only one of those 2 I even see come even closely to an anime would be The Boondocks due to the season 2 is animated some by Mad House.

But overall

Why Hasn't this thread locked yet? Or is it that the mods like a good laugh over something like this :/

I'd hate to say it, (but I've been in discussion about the noob forum, which, seems to fit the same catagory as this one)
but I don't think this thread is going to reach and ending,and if it does, it'll probly
be the same ending that the noobforum thread is going to meet.
we're going to leave things the way they are.
I doubt that this or any other thread will lead to a "revolution"
meaning that : this site has thrived on anime and the discussion of anime so long
that people are just used to these kinds of arguments, most of the "ancient" lurkers are probly just laughing at this very discussion, they'v probly seen it a thousand times in a million forums, but the fact remains that these little discussions have nothing to do with the actual out-come of the argument, people are not going to be swayed into changing what they think.

I'd like avatar to be thought of as anime, that way I could have some discussions here about it, but honestly, I doubt any discussions like these will ever come to a climax, and I doubt anyone here is going to change there perspectives on what they think is anime, and to be even more honest, I think the admins aren't worried about this discussion, they aren't worried about letting american "anime" come into this site because like I said, they've seen it before, so the answer is already decided in there mind.

hint-hint: if this site was going to allow american anime, the site would be "animationmusicvideos.org"

and I doubt they'll change the name of the site for the sake(not the drink) of some american "anime"

no cartoons unless they are "japanimation," comics from japan.

anime= japan
cartoon=everything else
Everything came from nothing, therefore everything is nothing.

There's nothing to worry about.

1.Just to add a new twist to the discussion here are 2 bits of news(not sure how new but still):

a)parts of season 2 of Boondocks are animated by Japanese studio Madhouse(check wikipedia)

b)since 01.Dec.2007(if i am not mistaking) Nick is airing A:TLA in Japan Dubbed in 2
http://www.nickjapan.com/programs/avatar/index.html
http://community.livejournal.com/avatar ... tml#cutid1
)

2.I had a similar talk on the forum of the first anime fan community in my country and i will try to translate parts, summarize it and post the conclusion here.

3.Sorry for a newb question bur how can i edit a message once posted?i don't see any button.However i can assure you i will try my best to have a constructive contribution.

You can't edit posts, but double posting isn't really frowned upon here.

D-Reaper wrote:Anime = "Japanimation" = Made in Japan. Boondocks and Avatar are not. End of story. I absolutely hate it when people mis-classify series like that. Just because the animation style isn't totally disgusting like some of the crap they have on Cartoon Network nowadays doesn't automatically make it anime, although I suppose I can see where someone who's not an anime buff could get confused.

While we're talking about Boondocks, has anyone else noticed that the opening is very similar to Samurai Champloo? They also have Champloo-like fight scenes. It makes me happy-- I believe Aaron McGrudder (I think that's his name) is one of us!

No my friend u r very mistaken. Anime does NOT mean "Japanimation" Anime is the Japanese WORD for cartoon thus any cartoon, yes even freaking loony toons are anime. Anime is not a style nor is it a genre. Sure Japanese have their own style of drawing and if anime isn't a style then what is their drawings called? Its called artwork. Does any country have a specific name for their artwork? No. And Japan is no different. When my friend first came from Japan and saw freaking Futurama he called it anime. No other word nothing. So yes The Boondocks and Avatar are anime and also drawn in the style of the Japanese.

sry for the dbl post but in the narrow scope of an otaku, anime must come japan. This site...videos must contain anime from japan. so no matter what you say and even IF an american toon is anime it generally won't be accepted. It's too bad, some of them are really good. But in an anime world ruled by otakus...america just can't fill the big boot that they're asked to fill.

I suggest they move to Japan and write manga and anime under a pen-name.
