Well, there are at least three good things that they did:

1.They didn't translate Light into "Raito." I would have just thrown up if that had happened.
2. Shinigami=Shinigami. Not Soul Reaper or Grim Reaper. Shinigami. Although, I think I may have been happier with "Death God." Just sounds cooler.
3. They got Ryuk's laugh down right. His normal voice isn't the best, but at least he still laughs just the way it was meant to be (I suspect they may have imported original audio).

Meanwhile, all of my friends who are seeing Death Note for the first time are very interested and eager for more.

There's none of this Near and Mello bullshit,

I thought Near's team was actually much more impressive than Ls. ALthough L is probably the more inept one, The Japanese Police force working with him handicapt him quite alot, while in contrast, Nears team fully trusted him and cooperated without question.

They also kinda rushed that arc in the anime I've heard, Especially Mello, he and some of the other side characters are apparently much more impressive in the manga.

The anime rushed the second part a lot, but L is still the major badass in the manga. Near and Mello together couldn't reach his level.

I personally prefer the contrast between Near and Mello, and the anime really made a laugh out of Mikami, I took that guy seriously in the manga but with all the exaggerations he pulled off in the anime i was just rofl

It sounds like they managed to fix L's voice in the English version. Its sounds a lot better than that one used in the trailer.

I only saw the Japanese version, and it a good anime, but the ending was...DISAPPOINTING!!! I hate that end...I mean, in the manga, it is different, it is more natural...but in the anime, it is like all the anime was a story for kids...
Anyway, I kinda feel sorry for Misa...I guess she loved Raito too much...and Raito/Light didn't made a mistake, it was only Teru's fault... :x if he hadn't made that stupid thing, that plan could succeed... :nono: but he went right into M and N's trap...I just feel sorry that I do not have a Death Note...

I just started watching it on Adult Swim (sorry, poor anime fan alert), and I like it. Liht reminds me of MacGuver a little bit in how he thinks things out and always has an ingenious plan to back him up. He just seems smarter than the average hero.

Not to crack down on this anime or anything, but the whole concept of the deathnote and intelligence of kira is pointless. He could of killed "L" at any point in the anime. It became obvious to me after the bus scene. Too be honest, I'm surprised i didn't realize it earlier after hearing the rules. They aren't specific enough.

Think about how the deathnote works and how he got the FBI agent to reveal his badge without knowing his name. Seriously... If it can go that in depth on cause and effect then why not for example:

When he kills the FBI's fiance after finding out her name... Instead of killing her imediantly. Put something like...

[Her name, I forgot it] - Will die immediantly after finding out the true name of the person known through-out the world under the code name "L" and calling me with that name on MM/dd/yy xx:xx time.

with 6ish minutes to write more detail, you could include her becoming a part of the investigation and gaining "L"'s and everyone elses name that is included in the investigation.

Theres way to many loopholes to the deathnote. The storyline is still enjoyable but knowing stuff like this destroys the concept a bit. I really liked it up till the bus scene too  ...

@Eva-Fan

I agree that there are loopholes, but the example you gave is wrong. Light simply assumed (or "deduced") that the FBI agent would show him his badge in order to gain Light's trust - the Death Note did not interfere directly with that. In the bus chapter, all instructions written on the Death Note refer to the escapee that hijacks the bus. Besides, while it isn't written on the instructions, Ryuk says to Light that writing an alias in the Death Note will not work, and that doing so would invalidate the instructions. At least in the manga. I don't really care for the anime. Therefore, he could not have used the Death Note to force that woman into getting L's identity since there would be no way for him to properly refer to L in the Note and since that would require the Death Note to manipulate other people besides the person whose name was written (since Light wopuld have established as a condition for her Death that L and the other team members revealed their names). That alone, regardless of the alias issue, would also invalidate the instructions and cause a simple heart attack death.

I hope I didn't sound like a fanboy - there's actually a lot of stuff I hate about Death Note - but you were just wrong.

Ah I see.. If that was in the anime then i must of missed it, though I figured if you are refering to "L" in the way that I mentioned it would of worked cause you dont need his name when it's said that way.

I wasn't aware there was a rule against conditions and manipulating either. As long as you could right the details of the death in 6 minutes and 40 seconds then it would work. Maybe i'll stop watching the anime and read the manga instead. It would probably be more enjoyable.

Agreed. Especially in the end.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I think that the Death Note is a bit too powerful. Light could have just came out and taken over the world with just a few penstrokes. Shoot, if he could write fast enough, he could win a fight with the Death Note, saying that his attaccker would slam his own head into the wall repeatedly until he died, or he could just have a heart attack, or whatever. Also, with's Light's intelligence, he could trick the shinigami into revealing the names of people that Light didn't know and kill them. I can see far batter ways to use the Death Note.
