Which to Buy?

Postby EleventhAkatsuki » Mon Oct 29, 2007 6:50 pm

I'm going to get some version of Vegas. Which is best?

Just for AMV making, I'd prefer it to have the editing tool that can "cut out" parts of anime. I'd also like it to be (relatively) cheap.

Thanks!

WMM can Cut out parts of anime, why spend money?

but ok, let's assume you're talking about masking/Roto

Any version of Vegas does that.. well. At least 5.0 and higher I know (Cause I use 5.0)

Sony Vegas 6 - $99

Sony Vegas is up to version 8 now, but the only real changes are support for HDV and AVCHD cameras. There are a few new features, but nothing that really matters AFAIK. This lacks the DVD program, but shouldn't matter. The consumer versions are probably fine too, but you can always download trial versions and try them out.

Anything past version 6.0 is an utter waste of money.

Just to clarify: when you say that, do you mean cutting out parts of <i>each frame</i> (usually called "masking")?

Unless you are doing High Definition video production on a professional level, Vegas Pro 8 or Vegas 7 don't offer much in the way of new features to the average editor. The only neat thing I see that Vegas Pro 8 offers that might be useful is the animated title feature:
ProType Titler New!
Create animated text effects with splined paths, per-character animation, and advanced curves. Add shadows, glows, blurs, and gradients for unique text treatments. Supports Unicode and TrueType fonts, as well as OpenType fonts with kerning pairs, alternate styles, bidirectional text, ligatures, custom kerning, and more.

I'd also recommend the $99 Vegas 6 offer.

Yeah, that'd be masking I'm talking about.

I dl'ed the Vegas Platinum 8.0 demo, but it didn't have masking.

Probably I'll go with Vegas 6 then. thanks guys.

O_o That is odd. I tried Vegas 8 trial too and it had masking tools. Are you sure it isn't
there?

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition 8 is not the same as Vegas Pro 8.

I see... I thought EleventhAkatsuki was talking about Vegas 8 Pro. ;) That explains a lot.

I just got Vegas 6.0, but, problem is, I get an error saying Microsoft SQL is uncompatable with Vista (which I have). Now, I'm flummoxed, I got the bloody thing to install and run earlier, just never managed to get it on my desktop, but now I can't find it anywhere and I'm having to re-install it, and this error comes up.

I checked for solutions online, and it told me to download some other program, which I did, to no success. Any advice?

.. simple, un-install Microsoft SQL; you need an Editor more than you need a DataBase.
.. .. which version of Vista?
