House of Leaves

Post by Serv0 » Mon Oct 29, 2007 3:01 pm

So who's with me on this one? Is House of Leaves not one of the greatest books of all time?

Thought I make a thread not so in-depth...
But then again I'm posting House of Leaves.
So I guess I fail.
Sorry Moonie.

It's amazing at how many influences go in and come from this book. Especially the Silent Hill series.

Anyways who likes or dislikes this book?

Best. Book. Ever.

See also: 'The Vellum' and 'The Ink' by Hal Duncan. Not quite at the level of insanity that House reached, but still damned good.

Never heard of it. Best book I've read is Dune. And I'm only posting because I haven't for a while. Sorry for crashing the party.

Pfff. Your crazy, do you know how crazy you are? Here, have some [HoL] money.

Who has never killed an hour? Not casually or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes. The violence comes from a combination of giving up, not caring, and a resignation that getting past it is all you can hope to accomplish. So you kill the hour. You do not work, you do not read, you do not daydream. If you sleep it is not because you need to sleep. And when at last it is over, there is no evidence: no weapon, no blood, and no body. The only clue might be the shadows beneath your eyes or a terribly thin line near the corner of your mouth indicating something has been suffered, that in the privacy of your life you have lost something and the loss is too empty to share.

Probably one of my favorite lines from the book.

I was quite happy with the way it was presented. Wasn't captured by the story nor convinced by the characters very much, but looking back at the way it was structured/written - it was very, very clever. I liked the book's format more than any of its' internal components.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I might pick this up next time I need something to read. It looks like something that I'll really dig or absolutely hate :o

Being crazy and all, I found L Ron Hubbard's Battlefield Earth to be quite a good read up to page 800 or so, then it went down to politics. Pretty silly after that.

I just though of a great movie though, I'd call it "Gymn'ass-kicks" . Gymnasts by day, crime fighters by night, and love on the ropes (or balance beams).

My luck it's probably been done already. :(
