Is it anything remotely like the books? I really liked the book series when I was a kid.

Yes, but mostly incantations having to do with time and fighting the Dark iirc, not random superpowers (though admitedly it has been a while since I read the books). Well, High King Math et Mathonwy knows no more than I. And I know this movie will annoy me so I will avoid it.

Seriously. I read these books as a kid. I think a more faithful translation would have been better.
I don't like what they did to Merriman, either. I always pictured him as a Gandalf-esque figure, not some old battle-ax.
