Good first episode, though in truth really didn't shed too much light on to how the story is going to unfold. No mecha were stolen here and it did have a bit of FMP feel to it at the start seeing as how the FMP director (or writer, I can't remember) is involved here.

I'm going to keep up with this series because firstly, I'm a fan of the genre, but secondly as well, it seems to purposely try to make itself different from other Gundam series that have happened before.

Hmm I'm pretty sure its the FMA writer not the FMP. The animation is crisp and its displayed in HD, I'm bloody addicted to the OP song DAYBREAK'S BELL [L'arc~en~ciel], for some reason it just grew on me faster than any other OP in an anime so far this year. Also I have a feeling that the anime may take ideas from Gundam Wing though I hope it stays unorthodox.

Actually, yeah, it is FMA XD... but it felt reminiscent of FMP in the beginning :P

I'm not so fond of the music here thus far. As I said, this show seems to be trying to distance itself from its predecessors which also includes the music. It's not the usual rave style high energy JPop that I've grown accustomed to, well, fallen in love with to be more precise. As such, this opening (and ending) haven't really impressed me as much.

Having seen some of the previous Gundam series,I can't say this first episode drew my attention. The quality was superb, the design was amazing but the story didn't make easy to follow so far.And the classic "we have to fight to stop wars from happening" shouldn't be given so bluntly in the first episode.
The music also didn't help at all.The opening was so-so(I love L'Arc en Ciel but this opening is totally opposite in style compared to the openings of GS,GSD,GW and so on) and I couldn't stand the ending.

Gundam's trademark are the mechs and the theme of war. You can't have a Gundam story without some kind of fighting or war happening =O

Also GSD has the best ED song ever. There is NO ED song which could possibly beat Nami Tamaki - Reason, it raised the bar too high in terms of awesomecore ED songs. Though its a shame that the ED song doesn't lead in at the end of the episode with a dramatic scene, I like anime which does that, like the second or third ED of FMA I think, all of the Seed Destiny songs and Kannaduki no Miko.

Oropher,I know about Gundams and I don't disagree with your statement. It's just that GS and GSD had as a theme how sad it was to fight to stop wars and what sacrifices need to be made. After they struggled and killed, they realised that it's such a huge
antithesis to kill in order not to stop killing.
While in Gundam 00,this dire realisation came as a simple statement and didn't deliver well as it had done in GS series. We'll see however how it goes...

As for endings,I loved all GS and GSD openings and endings apart from the last opening of GSD which was a total letdown. However,my favorite song from GS series still remains "Fields of Hope".
Concerning the endings which lead to dramatic outros of the episode,I liked a lot the ending of Black Lagoon.

well because the relevation in 00 was early im guessing there will be a huge amount of twists in the story considering it'll be 52 episodes =P characters changing sides and all... which is why i think that 00 will borrow ideas from Gundam Wing >_>

ep2 gets very political, the gundam 00 calendar is based on our timeline except 300 years later

Hahaha, in Episode 2, the Gundam Meisters went to the country formally known as Sri Lanka, and they tried to stop a war that's been raging on since the 1980's! How very amusing!

Needs more Wang Liu Mi hotness! That safari outfit was such a teaser! 8-)

I don't believe that any new Gundam series can surpass Seed and Destiny.Maybe the third installation of Seed may do the job,if it ever gets out.

as much as i would like to see a continuation of the Seed universe, there really is nothing else they can add to it without destroying the series or repeating things, (i was disappointed with Destiny coz the last few eps were practically the same as the last few of Seed) though I do wish they'd make a OVA without any conflicts, kinda like that episode when Kira and Lacus go shopping in Destiny, point fan material like that XD and yeah a proper Cagalli x Athrun ending, I mean come on, it can't end with Athrun x Meyrin, anyway http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6565 hopefully this won't get scrapped, but i kinda don't want to watch it coz then you know its over for good =(

anyway we'll see how Gundam 00 goes, Wong seems to be the fanbase girl of the series :/

Meh... I've always thought SEED was better than Destiny and it remains my favourite because it's really what got me into the Gundam fandom even though I did start with watching Wing. However, when I watched the original Gundam series, I also did notice the direct rip off of many of the themes that they had there employed in SEED and Destiny...

I'm not one of those people who will say that the CE Universe sucks because it was just a rip of the original. More that I'll say instead that it brought a brand new generation of fans to like what made the original good, plus the Lacus

That said, Gundam 00 could shape up to be the better than these yet, hopefully because it's stand alone and unpredictable.

Episode 2 seems to have been almost a copy of episode 1 in that they were just rehashing, except in greater detail, what the point of Celestial Being was. The show could at this stage go in many directions, but yeah, we'll see :P
