Scrubbing audio in AfterEffects

Postby SQ » Sun Oct 07, 2007 8:25 pm

Is there a way ot actually scrub the audio witht he mouse in AfterEffects? Like a plug-in or something?

I can only ram preview audio and that's really stupid. :/

I wonder why they do it in Premiere and not in AE?

This is my number one complaint about AE. If it handled audio the same way Premiere did, I would be far more apt to want to make an entire video in it. I know Ctrl-Scrubbing does it, but as Alan said, it just doesn't work all that well. You pretty much HAVE to render whatever little section you want to preview if you want to get any tight synching done.

But for what its worth, I believe they never included real audio scrubbing in After Effects because the application is not intended to function in realtime. If you assume that you have some complex stuff going on that takes about half a second to render each frame, scrubbing wouldn't really work in that situation.

agreed, but i do think that there are some instances when real-time preview SHOULD be viable. I mean, there have been times where I've only had JUST clips on the timeline. No effects, no motion, nothing, and it STILL has to go through and render at less than real-time. Even if there was simple motion or many layers, I still think it could be able to do a decent enough real-time preview similarly to how Premiere does it (basically skips frames it cant handle). Of course I understand the drawback to this, but it would still makes things far easier for me when all I need to do is just hit Enter and hear my audio and some resemblance of my video.
