Mac problems......(new mac user ^_^;)

Ok so I just recently switched from a pc to a mac, and I'm used to Sony Vegas and Windows Movie Maker. However, now I can only use the iMovie that my computer came with and I need a little help ^_^'. I think there is something I have to change in the settings or something because whenever I export the video the image quality sucks and it gets all fuzzy and distorted, even though the clips I was working with were crisp, clear images. It did this when I tried making a photo slideshow as well, so it's not just the videos. Can anyone help me please??

What are you exporting it as? Try exporting it as DV in a MOV container, and then open that in ffmpegX to export it as in a MP4 or AVI.
