Major Problem =\

Postby Radical_Yue » Fri Aug 24, 2007 6:32 pm

Not exactly sure where to post this, so I'm pickin here.

Okay, I just got a new computer built for me. I go to render a video that I have been working on and get this nasty, block colors all over it o.0

I try rendering in different formats, mpg, wmv, avi, and with different codecs, Lag, Huffy, Uncompressed, etc...

but I still continue to get it.

At first I was told it might be a faulty graphics card, so I get a new and much better card. Does the problem go away? No.

It's not the footage itself because when I play the individual files in Windows Classic, they play fine. Although, once in a while I will get a blip of this unusual color.

Next I was told that it's due to the graphics card overheating. So, in my random stupidity, I try turning on the computer and immediently rendering. Still no difference.

I try setting my graphics card for maximum quality as opposed to processing. It slows everything down, but STILL no change.

I'm an already confused person, and this isn't helping.

I'm at my wits end here.

I've gone from a computer with a 128mb ram where I can barely edit and am unable to use the preview screen, to this killer comp that let's me edit but gives me this shitastic feedback =\

Please someone help me, before do something drastic =_=

Here are some examples of the crap problem:

How is your source footage compressed?

What resolution are you rendering at?

What program are you rendering from?

This reminds me of what I get when the resolution isn't exactly a multiple of 16...

Your new computer wouldn't happen to be a 64bit machine would it?

Under Vista:
  • Open System by via Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
  • Under System, you can view the processor type and speed.
Under XP:
  • Open System by via Start -> Control Panel -> System, and then clicking System (which should be the default tab)
  • Under Computer, you can view the processor type and speed.

I ask because there are two versions of Lagarith: a 32bit version and a 64bit version. If you are using the wrong one, that might be you problem.

Uninstall the version you have, and install the 64bit version from the Lagarith website.

Time for me to do a little rant....

During the time I've had this problem, I've found that while Vegas is picky about what clips you can speed up and how much you can speed up when you encode in lagarith, Huffy gives you the ability to speed it up as much as you like. Problem is, when I encode in Huffy, I get that same damn problem. But now, I've found another thing, Helix YUV doesn't give me the problem (as far as I can tell), and it allows me to speed up my footage in Vegas. Only problem is that it doesn't preserve the quality. Oh yeah, and I'm a fucking retard who has no idea how the hell to install that lag codec.

Answer to my problem: A bullet to the brain.

I've had the exact same problem. It usually depends on footage. But it usually works if you encode in Huffy.

Try not to get too down, I think the main problem here is that you have a very high spec machine and a software / OS config on it that is not right for it.

w.r.t. to lagarith, did you read the readme? Did you see that batch file? What was the error that prevented you from installing it?

I am also becomming concerned that you have other problems going on as well as this. For example if you were running 64bit windows then I would not have expected huffyuv to be available to you, but if you were running 32bit windows on a 64bit CPU I would not have expected these problems.

Could you please do the following:
  • Start -> Run
  • Type: "cmd" and press enter
  • In the new window type: "systeminfo > c:\myinfo.txt" and press enter
  • Type: "exit" and press enter (the window will close)
  • There will be a new file in C:\ called "myinfo.txt" please paste that into this forum.

Are you on a 64bit system too?
