Mac Help: Creating an AMV using Final Cut Pro

Post by Hollow Naruto » Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:17 am

Hi everybody. I just wanted to ask if anybody knows how i could create AMV's on FCP. I needed help on making my clips into a lossless codec like virtual dub does for a pc. Also and codecs to see xvids, divx, etc would be helpful too. I noticed like APPro, FCP doesnt like encoded footage if im doing something wrong in that department let me know.Thanx in advance

as far i know, i could be wrong since i don't look at tech specs on FCP i think it edits in some DV codec. this never gave me a problem though. getting the file to xvid, divx, or h.264 i eport to DV then use a program called "d-volution". i am still toying with apps that will convert to mpeg-2 and such with more settings control though.

Terminology correction:

To say any editing program "doesn't like encoded footage" is incorrect. All digital video is encoded in some way or another.*

What you are probably referring to is Adobe Premiere Pro's (and most other decent non-linear video editors') tendency not to play nicely with video that was encoded using temporal (inter-frame) compression.

So, it'll work fine with codecs like MJPEG, HuffYUV, and RLE, but not so much with things like XviD, DivX, 3ivX, etc.

* With the obvious exception of raw uncompressed video.

Guides on my site have a full rundown of codecs as well as converting info.

DV is not a lossless codec by the way..
