Help: Importing VOB file to PowerDirector3

Postby rb42 » Sat Jul 21, 2007 4:32 am

I'm using Howl's Moving Castle for my next video, and am using PowerDirector 3 to make it.

I am aware that since the Howl's Moving Castle dvd has a lot of protection, problems may occur with decrypting and ripping. However, using DVD Decrypter from the AMVapp, I was able to import some of the VOB files where the actual movie is located.

I decrypted VOB 1 through 6 and have sucessfully imported VOB 2 through 6 onto PowerDirector, ready for use. But it's the first VOB that I've been having consistent problems (to be exact, VOB_7_1).

If anyone has used this program and/or anime and can offer some help, I would greatly appreciate it. And any other advice is welcomed.

but i rip howls and various ghibli dvds with ripit4me (a program that works with dvd decryptor) and it cleans up a lot of the issues ive had

Whenever I try to import that first VOB file, the PowerDirector program either freezes up or says that there was an error. None of these problems occurred with the other 5 VOB files, which leads me to believe something is wrong with the clip itself.

As for the "ripit4me" program, where can it be downloaded (or does it have to be purchased)? I know it's possible to use that dvd, but I'm just having some problems that I couldn't solve on my own.

Thanks for the response

I have had similar problems when trying to rip newer anime/dvds, tends to happen mostly with movies rather than series. It wont copy the first VOB file but it will copy the remaining ones, problem is the ones it does rip are still messed up and crash DGindex.

The program JaddziaDax mentioned should do the trick, its designed specifically to circumvent the new coppy protection some dvds have.

I downloaded RipIt4Me, DVD Decrypter (which I already had) and DVD Shrink. But I honestly have little knowledge in how to use them properly, with the exception of simply ripping dvd footage using DVD Decrypter.

I used DVD Decrypter to rip footage from another dvd (the Escaflowne Movie) and was able to use that footage perfectly well, using the same steps that I tried to with Howl's Moving Castle. So I'm stumped.

And I tried using DVD Shrink to "Back Up" the dvd since that was all I knew how to do since this is my first time using this program. Then, while backing up the dvd, this message appeared:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file "E:\"
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

So now I really have no idea what to do. It would be helpful if someone could tell me how to use these programs properly. Thanks.

double click on ripit4me and follow what the prompts give you... then it should bring you to DVD decryptor and you do it "normally" from there... then follow the ripit4me prompts out..

I tried using RipIt4Me, and the same problem occurred when I used it the first time.

I followed the Wizard mode.
In step 1, the only thing I changed where the "ripping settings" to movie only.
In step 2, I clicked Create PSL.
In step 3, I clicked Rip DVD, which automatically opened DVD Decrypter. I selected files VTS_07_1 through VTS_07_6, like I had before.
In step 3, once the ripping was done with DVD Decrypter, I clicked Do It!, and then a message came up:

Failed to load IFOs! In the meantime, you can use Wizard mode, skip steps 2 and 3 and try cleanup once more.

First of all, I'm unsure of how to use this program properly, and am unaware of how to try "cleanup".

If someone could tell me how to use these programs and/or tell me what to do, I would be very grateful.

And I have a WindowsXP Home Edition computer, if that makes any difference. And I have most of the movie loaded to PowerDirector; I only need the first file, VTS_07_1. If anyone can specifically address that problem for that certain file, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I tried using DVD Shrink again, this time instead of using the Full DVD feature, I clicked the Re-Author feature, and the same error message appeared:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file "E:\"
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

First, what exactly does "cyclic redunancy check" mean?

And again I stress that it's only a certain part of the movie that I am missing. If there is anyway of getting the footage from a source other than my dvd, I would appreciate if someone could tell me.

Thanks again.

In DVD terms, the disc is dammaged (in HDD trms it would mean you have bad sectors... which i guess also means that your Hard Disc is damaged)

You can either attempt to resurface the disc with comercial tools, or use the tried and true (at least for me) method of pledge+soft cloth to try to buff out the scratches. (any waxy cleaner should work in small amounts to fill in the scratches)

The data on a DVD or CD is protected by several layers on the top and the bottom, the ones one the bottom, if dammaged, will mess with the lazer trying to read them. The thin protective layers on the top of the disc are actually a lot worse to get scratches on - the data can be dammaged a lot easier.

tried doing that, but still nothing.
so the only problem is the scatches on my dvd (which isn't that bad)?
and is there any other source for the footage other than my dvd? maybe something online?

thanks.

Don't even go there - asking is a banable offense.
