Celebrate the birth of your country with high explosives. There are days I just don't understand my fellow Americans. Granted, I'm still going to the fireworks tonight so maybe I'm just feeding into the meme.

lol. My step-dad is English and still has relatives over there. So every year, he calls them up on 4th of July and says "Haha! We won!"

Not bad! Whose fireworks were they?

I took the metro into DC with some friends to watch fireworks for the first time in years. The place was just as mobbed as I remembered from past times, but we found a good spot at the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial. As a kid, I used to set off roman candles from my balcony in Shanghai (the place was a pyro's paradise during the month of Chinese New Year), so fireworks here hadn't been able to impress me much. Last night's show managed to surprise me though. I guess it was the combination of the good view and good feeling of hanging out with friends on a nice night.
