DRAMA

Lots of stuff happened, actually. They accelerated things quite a bit here, though I hope it doesn't mean the series is shorter than the 24-26 that we expect.

Still a few really cute moments here, but a nice way to return to the action, anyway.
Seems to me like the old dude that lives in the mountains may prove to be the real Friar character for this series. I have a feeling he'll be pretty important later on.

And I hope Willy's just foreshadowing as usual, he sounded a little creepy for a moment there...
I agree on the first point. I introduced a friend to this series the other day, and when they first showed the church, she grabbed my shoulder and said, "OH GOD... that's where they're going to die, I just KNOW IT!" in an agonized voice. heh...
Anyone else a little miffed by the lack of a consummation of the relationship during the "honeymoon," however? I'm not talking hentai-ness, but a little tactful scene ala Kare Kano wouldn't have felt out of place at all.

Its kinda funny I just got a new younger sister in the house who knows nothing about anime aside from some few episodes of Naruto on cartoon network, and shes completely hooked on this series now, even though its in Japanese and subtitled ;p
She was especially all aww and such in eps 11, and keeps bugging me if the next episode has come out yet

And yet another unsuspecting victim dragged down to the depths of anime hell!

See if I can hook my mom on it this way (though she's already a fan of Death Note, Monster etc.)

Like I was saying though, whatever relation (or lack thereof) it bears to Shakespeare, it's just such an awesome romance/drama/fantasy/adventure series that it can't fail.

I notice some people have been wondering whether 24-26 at the rate it's been going would be too long, but then there's a lot of side characters that really haven't been exposed properly yet. It's been focusing on the lead duo rather intensely.

I bet you the young secondary dudes (Tybalt, Curio, Francisco, Mercutio, Benvolio) are going to play a major role in the next few eps where we'd get our background on them (which I'm rather curious of). They certainly deserve a bit more attention than they've had so far.

Plus, don't forget that in the original play, a few of those side characters die... so there might be some more development along those lines.
Tybalt was one, I think... but I'm really, REALLY hoping he doesn't in the series. :D

Oh, and I just remembered. Does it bother anyone else that Juliet seems to have conveniently forgotten all her poor friends and compatriots who may or may not be alive in order to spend a few blissful days with Romeo?
I mean... come on. If that were me, no matter HOW much I loved this guy, I'd want to make sure my friends were, oh, I don't know... NOT being tortured by the man who murdered my entire family, before flitting off on a "honeymoon."
Not that I don't like these episodes... that just kind of bothered me a bit.

I think Romeo and Juliet both were operating on the "let's find a way we can get away and live, then consider the rest". Juliet did think about her past at some points in ep 11 and said something along the lines of "someday". I mean, really, it's probably the right approach, and let's not forget they're both appropriately young and naive, thinking that everything will turn out fine. Their rashness and tendency to get carried away by their emotions is certainly Shakespearean!

Fair bit of stuff happened in ep 13 (been out for a while...why is this thread not being updated?!?!? )
Anyways, serious stuff here:
-Juliet is sentenced to a public execution, with Juliet crying for the the rest of the Capulet house to be pardoned and Montague of course refuses

-Hermione requests to meet with Juliet. She tells Juliet that she would provide anything needed. Juliet says she loves Romeo. Hermione sees this, but forces herself to believe it's not true.

-Francisco, Curio, and Antonio mount a rescue. They have pegasi (somehow, this surprised me though it shouldn't have). The whole castle guard is raised to prevent this. We get to see some of their fighting skills and they are pretty dang vicious.

-Mercutio tells Romeo what is going on and Romeo runs off to help. Mercutio smirks after this, so obviously there is something to this, a scheme or something.

-Curio makes it to Juliet, but she is unsure. He plays the "what about us" and "love" cards to convince her

-On their way out, the floodgates (dunno what to call them) open and Juliet is washed away

-Juliet arrives unconscious at the the Escalus tree and the "heavenly being." Montague also happens to arrive, but the being wards him away. She then sends Juliet to a fountain outside

-Juliet awakens to be surrounded by the castle guards. Romeo literally drops in to defends her and they run off

-The two part with the "Even when we are apart, we are together. Our hearts will never be apart" line

-Curio, Francisco, Antonio, and Juliet fly off in a flurry of feathers
I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

The water did seem a bit corny to me... I mean... it looked like it all came flowing out of a set of higher-story windows?
Regardless, still a cool episode.
And Fransisco lives! Woot!
I'll be honest here, this anime fell apart for me after the red whirlwind arc. I liked it at first because it showed Juliet as a heroine, completely subversive to the traditional perceptions of feminity, yet after that identity was taken away we see her becoming more and more submissive to these gender roles with her interactions with Romeo and she has lost that strong will appeal which I initially saw in her character (wtf @ declaring her name to the soldiers when there is no benefit or it would change little but add more problems). But hey I guess this is based on Shakespeare not George Bernard Shaw =| Anyway I hope the mining episodes don't last for long, I'd rather see more character buildups for Mercutio and Tybalt. The mining was unnecessary to me, because we knew what would happen and that Romeo would find the situation unacceptable and try to intervene, because that isn't something overly unique. I hope towards the end the character of Juliet will redeem herself.

Personally, i'm ok with both Romeo and Juliet's characters, but i'm starting to think this magical-magnificent-trees thing won't fit well there :? ...
