Trance Synchfest (Interest Gauge) - Updated with Tracklist

Postby BasharOfTheAges » Sat Jun 16, 2007 8:19 pm

I had intended to wait and send this out to specific people individually, but with chaos at work, commitments to family and friends, and Karazan runs hogging up the vast majority of my free time I decided writing up a thread would be in my best interest.

What I have here is a MEP proposal focusing on various elements and styles of synch. The proposed album (below) is one I’ve had around for several years and it’s always intrigued me. I’d like to use most or all of it in a long MEP that seems to be rather ambitious. I’m not quite sure about segment length at the moment (there are 15 distinct tracks, but it is over an hour in length) and would be open to suggestions.

http://albinowolfman.info/stuff/Trance-Fixed192CBR.mp3

The largest bonding element I can see in it would be a comparison on techniques (ala ROS) focused on synch. I don't particualrly want to pigeonhole (as that would defeat the purpose) but suggestions for a secondary cohesive element wouldn't be frowned upon.

I would prefer very much to have skilled editors on this. If I don’t know who you are I’d like some samples of your best synch work.

This is still up in the air as of now, so final deadlines would be in the winter months. Technical details will appear here when I get to them as this is more a probing interest gauge. I look forward to seeing my bandwidth limit on my host pushed to the limit soon.

Also, I really couldn't come up with a suitable title, so the one there right now is simply filler.

**update**

I assume it's probably a better idea to put this on the first page than have it wollow on pg 3...

I’m pretty happy with this cut, but I’m up for any criticism you can offer. Some of it got a bit messy with mixing 2 elements back and forth so I came up with a novel idea – why not mix the video like the audio? You’ll notice I’ve indirectly proposed a team edit sequence where multiple small sections alternate back and forth between 2 tracks (the red/blue alterneting segments). Though it’ll mean a lot more work on my part in terms of mixing segments together, I think it’ll add a certain uniqueness to the project as a whole.

Let me know what you think, and as always, let me know if you’re interested. As for signups, I’m going to hold off for a while – I want to get a system in place that ensures the most qualified are brought on. What it lacks in “fairness” it’ll make up for in awesome.

You know I'm down Justin. ^^ I listened to part of the track earlier, it's awfully long... are you sure you'll get enough editors for the entire thing?

Nope, and i'm open for cuts to either end if need arises.

Ok. I'll even forsake FMA for this and use something else. /shock ~_^
When I'm done with this party in FFXI I'll listen to the entire thing and try to pick a track/anime.

I'm not even up to the cutting process, but i'm open to suggestions. You'll notice it's an entire album with 15 tracks.

EDIT: to clarify, I'd be greatful for suggestions as to how to cut the album up. I plan to run, but i'll take suggestions from people if they're willing to give them.

Glad to see i've piqued some interest... I'll let this linger here a few more days then get to work on something more substantial in terms of guidelines, possible sectioning, etc. once I've gotten enough feedback.

I'm not the type to half-ass things, and I want to take that attitude with this - just making sure we're all on the same page. I like to be a real hard-ass when it comes to producing something great - Serious Business and all. I feel it's important to mention at least that. I sure as hell don't consider myself to be highly skilled at editing, but with the correct amount of time, motivation, and effort you'll be surprised with what you can do.

Dunno if my skill would be considered up to the level of this type of MEP yet, but I'm interested. However, as I'm much more skilled working with VG footage, I gotta ask: would you consider allowing videogames, or is this solely meant for "real" anime?

In any case, even if I'm not accepted, if this project is filled with a lot of talented editors, I'd be interested in seeing it. Maybe cut down the song mix, but hell - if it works for the DDR projects, it may just work at the current length for this, too.

Just realized my host sucks and i have a total of 1GB of bandwidth a day - that equates to about 10 downloads - i'm going to get some alternative hosting set up and update the main post.

Done - http://albinowolfman.info/stuff/Trance-Fixed192CBR.mp3
