Maria-sama ga Miteru DVDs and Magic DVD Ripper

Postby Kanina-Hecate » Thu Jun 14, 2007 12:26 pm

(I apologise if this question has been previously posted but there are so many pages on the Capturing and Ripping on the forum and I don’t have time to go through them.)

I recently purchased a copy of Magic DVD Ripper to rip the footage from my Maria-sama ga Miteru DVDs although it’s easy enough to get rid of the subtitles, I can’t seem to get rid of the clock on the second series and I can’t get rid of the credits from the opening and ends. I know from seeing Marimite AMVs that the clock and credits can be removed but either I must be doing something wrong or Magic Ripper can’t get rid of these irritations. If it turns out that Magic DVD Ripper isn’t able to get rid of the clock and credits then I am hoping that someone can advise me on a ripping program that is able to remove them.

Thank you in advance.

You can't get rid of the credits, it's impossible, but often you find clean openings and endings at the DVDs

Thank you SO much everyone for your advice!

JaddziaDax, I’ll post back to say whether the method did or didn’t work. Thank’s for suggesting it!

Kumatora, I’m still a novice at AMV making, so I’ve don’t know what you mean by ‘bootleg’. Could you explain what it is?

Keepers of Hellfire, for some unknown reason to me my Maria-sama ga Miteru DVDs don’t have any extras on them, I’ve checked several times. I did come across a website where you can download the first series opening and end without credits. But there avi files and I’ve NEVER been able to work an avi file on Windows Media Player or Windows Movie Maker or Sony Vegas.

Does anyone know whether you need a type of decoder or do I need to install a program onto my computer to get an avi file to work?

Unauthorized DVD copies of the series that are not distributed by the companies that actually own the rights to the content but instead by pirates. If I were to take R1 animé DVDs I own, produce hundreds of copies of them, and sell them to unsuspecting fans, that would be bootlegging.

When you buy bootlegs, none of the money goes back to the people who made and distributed the show/movie; from what I've heard, it's very likely that much of it is going to a crime syndicate somewhere in East Asia.

Scintilla, thank you for explaining, it feels odd to think I might have a ‘bootleg’ copy of the Maria-sama ga Miteru series. I was sure that my copy was genuine since I bought it on ebay (how naive of me) and I bought it from America but I suppose if it is ‘bootleg’ copy then the organization would have people stationed all over the world and I’ve seen the same copy as mind being advertised on ebay by other users. Yet I’m confused, if it turns out to be ‘bootleg’ copy then why did the people who created the fake copy cut out the extras if there were on the original DVDs. I’m still not sure whether it is a ‘bootleg’ copy, the DVDs and cover look fine (I’m being naive again).
So to reiterate if it is a ‘bootleg’ copy then the method JaddziaDax suggested will not work on it and I’ll never be able to get rid of the clock. If it turns out to be a genuine copy then hopefully the method should work.
So I’m getting the impression once I used the method I’ll know whether it’s a genuine copy or not.

Seeing as you have the clock on your episodes, those episodes are not from the official DVDs but the broadcasts themselves. Also, the more appropriate name for these DVDs would be counterfeit copies seeing as official bootleg CDs exist.

Check here for info on how to spot these DVDs.[/url]

Kumatora, thank you again for replying, I feel as though I’m gradually getting a picture of DVD ripping.
I’ve just downloaded AMV APP (DVD Decryptor and VirtualDub Mod) and trying to follow JaddziaDax tutorial. I was pleased to see the subtitles disappeared without me having to do any thing but the clock is STILL there. Is there any thing I have to do on DVD Decryptor to make the clock disappear before ripping the DVD or when I import the VOB file in to VirtualDub Mod, is that where I can removed the clock?
After reading the link you provided me Kumatora I think that my DVDs might be a ‘bootleg’ since it’s got Chinese subtitles on it and the subtitles are just absolutely appalling in English. But the cover looks very genuine the back which has the description of the story, cast and staff is all in Japanese and the discs looks extremely genuine. On the front it says it is ‘TV Series Box set’ on both series but another reason it might be a ‘bootleg’ copy is that I’m sure it works on all Region, although I can’t find that on the back cover I remember seeing that on the ebay description.

I guess there’s no way to decode anything that’s been ecoded?
I suppose I’ll have to buy an official copy of Maria-sama ga Miteru ~Hara~ off the Japanese Amazon. You wouldn’t happen to know of any other websites apart from Japan Amazon which sells official copies from Japan? (I can’t speak or read a word of Japanese.)

www.yesasia.com

www.cdjapan.co.jp

I've had moderate success with these two companies. CDJapan are very bad about telling ou they have a product in stock...then three weeks later mentioning that it is backordered...then three weeks later mentioning that it wasn't in print to begin with. All the while their site still cheerily tells you "IN STOCK NOW!" :)
Life's short.

You've been had. Twice. As I'm sure you're now aware, but just in case other people are paying attention in this thread, I want to stress:

YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO PURCHASE A DVD RIPPING PROGRAM!

The two options I recommend, DVD Decryptor and MacTheRipper, are free (as in no-cost) downloads.
