Chicago convention(s)?

Postby starwire » Sun Oct 13, 2002 7:28 pm

I'm very new to the world of anime fandom, and would very much like to go to a convention in the upcoming year. Unfortunately, my Google-powered searches have been quite unhelpful in my search for information on Chicago anime conventions. The abbreviated names that most of the cons go by also reveal little about their actual locations, so keeping an eye on the board here hasn't given me any information.

Are there any cons coming to Chicago soon? What are they/What is it called? Where can I find more information? I'm not too interested in other midwest cons...I'm not going to Iowa City or Fort Wayne or any other place that would require a day-long, solo drive. Strictly the Windy City to start with, and maybe then I'll see if the world of anime cons is worth multiple-tank trips to immerse myself in.

AnimeCentral is in the immediate Chicago area. It's supposed to be a pretty good party con, fairly old and large, probably the biggest in the midwest. If you're willing to go a little farther, Ohayocon is in the Cleveland area and has been growing at an amazing rate over the last couple years.

Ya, Acen, but there's also another con that's springing up around Chicago starting next year in October, AnimeReaction. It's going to be their debut year with some of the staff from Acen so that should be something to look forward to as well.
