Importing with Premiere

Postby anurok » Fri Jun 01, 2007 10:27 am

So I was working on an AMV and I just got my better computer built and I had everything I was doing on an external hard drive. I installed premiere on my new PC and tried to open the AMV file on the new PC.

I get an error that says the media format is not supported by premiere or something like that...Will I not be able to import the video files from the HD to the new PC and have to work on my old PC? =/ New one is so much faster...

I have not encountered this before...

Any help would be much appreciated...I have a few hours into the AMV and although it is only my second one I have started to make I do not want to start it over again if I dont have to =(

help please guys! Thank you...

This belongs to the... Adobe Software help forum

Now that´s what I guess:
You can´t edit compressed videos (and I think your video is already compressed) in Premiere, Vegas or many other editing softwares, because of some good reasons.

So no: DivX, XviD, wmv, mpeg, mkv, x264... in your editing software possible. Ok maybe be possible, but it will be screwed up.

What you need is a looseless codec for your video files.

-Lagarith
Slower, but lower filesize

-Huffy
Faster, but higher filesize

Get yourself VirtualDubMod and open your amv and than... export in Huffy or Lagarith and open the new file in Premiere.

How you get your source in high quality is explained in the guides here:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtechbeta/

There is also VirtualDubMod in the amvapp (wich is highly recommended for editors).

Will I not be able to import the video files from the HD to the new PC and have to work on my old PC? =/

It has nothing to do with the hd. A friend of mine works completly over an extern drive (source + Sony Vegas, all on the drive) and it works fine.

Wrong Topic!
MMM did you miss the Adobe Software topic? Maybe you were too lazy to scroll down?

What is an "AMV file" ? Do you mean the project file the avis an avisynth script maybe? What?

I get an error that says the media format is not supported by premiere or something like that...

Something like what? To get help try to write the exact error message next time ;)

Anyway I think you do not have the codecs installed on your new PC and the videos you are working with probably are XViD or something. Install the codecs and try again

hrm I installed the k-lite codec to view the files...

I am not sure what other decoders I had on the other PC. I will have to check on them then I guess but I thought they were installed right.

Sorry about the wrong section. I scrolled down and must have missed it. I know, I suck.

I will have to try it out when I get home from work then...hopefully I can fix the problem.

The files are avi's and play through WMPC with the k-lite codec...

avi's that I have used before...

The error is:

Unsupported Compression File

That is what it tells me when the box pops up.

I am unsure as to how to fix it. It was working fine on my old pc

what is the compression of your "avi files"

to get codec information right-click on the video file, and choose "properties" and click the tab that says "summery" it should be listed next to compression and if that doesnt work, get a program called GSpot and drop the file in it

if premeire will let you trade them out you could reincode them as huffyuv/lagarith encoded files and rename the new files to the old files, and you could just switch them out

ps. those codecs are buggy so sometimes they will work sometimes not... which is why its best not to use divx/xvid encoded files for editing in the first place...

click the link that the banner goes to and it will give you all the reasons why
