I don't agree with Pwolf, it's a very 'org-centered' idea and it bothers me.... I mean some people are very very helping their own community, are participating in Org but not 'helping' it but you just don't notice them.
I know you'll say that VCA is an Org contest (after all) but imho, it's not. Or, at least, it can be more than that (I even think it should have always been ). Every community I observe sees VCA as a prestigious stuff (despite many non-appreciated results lol) and waits for it every year so, imho again, it must be organized so that every single person of every community has equal chances.

I mean, even before there was this announcement, I know that on AMV-France and AMVNews, there were topics about it...

This. Actually I didn't see the psychedelic category in the default ones.

But the fact that the 'prestigious stuff' about the VCAs is not only for the french and russians, count there also the Brasilians, the europeans (Italians, Germans), ZonaAMV and even in AKROSS there has been conversations about how the people will do in the VCAs, even the newbies dream about the VCAs.

I think Best Story should become a permanent category in the VCAs.
Psychodelic is a nice suggestion, but IMO it would be a good idea to merge it with Horror to make it Best psychodelic/horror. There are not many horror videos and psychodelic videos win the category anyway (ie Paranoia Drift last year).
So, for the new category I propose Best Ecchi

It's still a contest on THIS SITE. You have to have videos on THIS SITE to participate. It's no more of an org-centric idea than any other category is implicitly. There's a silent "on a-m-v.org" added to the end of every category, and there's nothing wrong with that. This is a contest for this community. There is no reason for any community to be expected to kowtow to any other community over a site event.

Your right to be involved is proportional to your participation and involvement the other 11 months of the year that do not encompass VCA time.

I think this is a great argument in favor of Pwolf's idea. The current award for Most Helpful can apply to helpfulness in any aspect and area of AMV creation. Having an award specific to this community (the "Most Appreciated Member" "Community Champion" award, for example) would complement the current award well; it could even act as an incentive for users to revive this community.

Is it likely that the two awards will sync up? Sure. Is it worth looking into ways to distinguish the two? Yes, but only as much as we separate Drama & Sentimental or Comedy & Parody.
