I've NEVER Been to an Anime Con

Postby RajinAsian » Sat Apr 22, 2006 5:29 pm

I've been wanting to go to one. Just to check it out at least.
I live in Norfolk Virginia, is there a website that is an anime conventions central kind of like a ticket masters?

And what exactly goes on at those things? Alot of Cosplay and retail?

www.anime-cons.com is a complete listing, but to register you have to go to the website of the specific convention you want to go to.

As far as what goes on... quite a lot. Events vary a bit from con to con but it's mostly the same stuff, check out the websites for more info.

There's one going on here in Richmond soon. Anime Mid-Atlantic, if you can find a ride up here, its like 30 bucks at the door though.

There's also one in Durham, NC, which isn't too far away either. Check out the thread here:

North Carolina. I try and avoid that state, unless I am running through, it would take serious consideration.
I hate traffic there and pretty much everything abut it. I am not even sure why I angst towards it. I just do.

And we hate Virginia? :?

Actually, I used to live in VA, so I guess I can't hate it. But North Carolinians are way friendlier than Virginians. Virginia is for lovers my foot

And I'll take Raleigh-Durham traffic ANY DAY over NoVa or VaBeach traffic.

Haha, yes, the traffic here is horrible. In fact, I hate Virginia. I am not one to complain like a lil b!tch about where I live, and never have. But now I must become a hypocrite. VA is pretty horrible, the weather is inconsistant, traffic EVERYWHERE is worst than Jersey, the people, especially females are ultra snobs. And no one really cool lives here, like at all.
I however, due to my job, am forced to be stationed here.

NC just has bad younger history with myself.

You know, Nekocon is right in your back yard, downside is it's not until November. Upside is it's a good one to cut your teeth on.

Just go into it understanding that you WILL undoubtedly see very large hairy men dressed up as your favorite sailor scout. If you can accept this as an inevitabilty, you should be okay for the con crowd.

I mainly go to con's for AMV stuff nowadays. I know AMA does have a contest but I dont know about other AMV events they have, if any.

Unfortunately because AMA doesnt draw a huge AMV crowd we do not have alot of AMV programming. We do however have one of the CLEANEST contests around in my opinion. I think in 2007 there will be much more AMV programming :)

I HIGHLY ENDORSE THIS SERVICE AND/OR PRODUCT!!!

I quit staffing for them last year (I was dept head for the AMV contest before I left), but the person running the contest this year knows what he is doing, and since it isn't till November you have plenty of time to send in an entry if you like.
