Anime Central 2006 Ideas

Postby SailorDeath » Sat Oct 08, 2005 1:27 pm

Hello all, with about 2.5 months remaining before 2006, I figured now would be a good time to announce this information.

First of all, this year we're aiming to have the rules ready by December 15th for everyone. Also I'm trying my hardest to find hosting so we can have an FTP for entries again.

Now down to the fun stuff. We already have a bunch of programming that works really well. The Too Hot For Acen segment was very successful. (we are working on a more snappier name for it this year) Iron Editor is another popular one, and of course the AMV Contest, and Panels are all fine.

What I'm looking for are events that will draw even more people to amvs. So this is why I'm asking you guys. What ideas do you have? Plus keep in mind now that we run an adult block at midnight we can show more explicit material.

I really want your guy's input since you'll ultimately be the ones submitting material for us to show. One thing I do want to do is an insanity half-hour where we show the funniest, yet most bizzare stuff we can create. (I'm looking at you doki and mexican junior, you guys are pros when it comes to making bizzare videos)
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

AMV gong show:

Choose a set of jaded, irritable panelists. Don't announce who they are.

Allow "contestants" to submit their videos for "criticism" prior to the con. (Any videos are fine, whether or not they've ever been in any contests.)

Choose the worst/best videos to play for said jaded, irritable panelists. Allow panelists to make fun of, rip into, and generally destroy the video and/or the video's editor. Once one or more panelists are sick of a video, the gong is whacked and a new video starts.

Optionally, a "contestant" may be seated at the front of the room as his/her video is played.

Fun for all!

It would almost be worth it to make a really bad video to see how long it would take to be gonged.

Oh damn, I'd be up for that.

Hell, I'd even be willing to submit my videos to that show and rip them to shreds.

That's the best idea I've ever heard. Ever.

How about integrating some of the rips and jabs into the video itself beforehand, à la "Cooking with the God of Romance"? 8-)

Nice suggestions! I may have to come to A-Cen and see how things turn out as I'm also looking for new stuff for Anime Evolution

I'd volunteer to be a judge. Doubt any video would make it beyond 10 seconds though.

I'm not sure how origional this would be, but it's something I thought would be great to put into programming for Youmacon, but because of cosplay things it got cut...

anyway, its more of a panel but at the same time it's an event. How NOT to make an AMV. Basically, the premise would be to inform the audience that in order to make a great AMV you have to do all the cliche'd and over used things, that a great AMV MUST have DBZ put to Linkin Park or other things like it. In the end it would all be satire since the idea is to inform how not to make an AMV.

Like <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=41561">this</a> but with less objective criteria?

...do people have any idea as to what the term 'originality' means when leaving an opinion...?

If an AMV gong show ever happened, I'd actually go so far as to raise my hand in order to put myself out there as a possible embittered judge. I think that would be entertaining, but what do I know, I actually enjoy myself.

To answer the question seriously, some ideas:

Advanced panels. AE, Blender, AVIsynth, Premiere (hey, it can do some advanced shit), how to rip DVDs properly (with the amount of DL footage around this could be called 'advanced'), etc. Looking around the org I see many people who figured out how to use WMM and downloaded footage but don't know anything above that.

An open Iron Editor. Load up a few computers with footage and a few songs then allow anyone to signup for a two hour block to edit a video. After the contests award show you could show all the vids made during the con with an informal voting and cheap ass certificate to the winner. Disadvantages are it'd require a few computers and some space.

A bishi kissing booth. A dollar to kiss trythil in drag and all proceeds go to the org. If done on Friday the pics from this could be the secret ingredient for the Iron Editor competition.

The AMV gong show is a serious suggestion :P

That reminds me -- I was planning on setting up a sort of "how to make an AMV with Free Software" panel...

I doubt anyone would care, though, so.
