Youmacon 2005, Troy Michigan

Postby ngsilver » Wed Aug 24, 2005 8:26 pm

There is a new convention taking place in Troy Michigan comming this November 11-13. The name is Youmacon. It is at the Troy Hilton on Case Ave. There will be many events normal at conventions including Dealers Room, Guests, Panels, Video Games, Cosplay, and an AMV contest.

We are also thinking about holding an Iron Editor type competition. However we would like to know who would plan on attending the competition. We are also looking for editors interested in competing.

For more info about the con please visit the website: http://www.youmacon.com

I believe I already submitted a video, actually. Chances are good I'll be there, although I don't know if I'd be willing to Iron Editor.

The Iron Editor competition is a GO. As such we are looking for editors interested in competing.

More information on the competiton itself can be found on the youmacon forums here: http://www.americanzaku.com/~youmacon/p ... .php?t=102

Information for Editors interested can also be found on the youmacon forums here: http://www.americanzaku.com/~youmacon/p ... .php?t=106

We are also planning a creator dinner/get-together at the convention. It's open to all AMV creators, not just those who entered the contest.

We're looking at doing something on either thursday or friday night from 6-10 ish. We are currently looking at Red Robin as the place (it's a burger joint for those who don't know). We'll probably meet up in the lobby and then head over.

There's a descussion thread on the youmacon forums, but feel free to talk about it here as well, I'll mediate between the two forums.

Just remember guys, if you really want to challege eachother, you should make sure both of you are willing to meet our IE requirements. At the same time both of you would need to sign up with me so I can make the final decision.

Anyway, about the AMV Creator dinner/get-together. Things are leaning toward a Friday night meeting. The exact times are still up in the air, but they will most likely be sometime between 6-10 PM. I'm going to contact the Red Robin later and see if I can make a reservation and such to make sure we have table(s) for all of us that will be there.

Give me a hollar either on these forums or on Youmacon's forums (or my email or AIM) if you're interested in attending this dinner thing.

Just remember, each creator is responsible for his/her own dinner. I'd like to be able to cover it myself or through the con... but yeah... a dream is a dream. ^^()

Here's what's goin on with me. I can do the dinner friday night, and only the dinner friday night. I can be there all day saturday after a 9-11am class. Since I haven't gone to class yet today, I'll leave myself a reminder to sign up for stuff when i get home. I've already read the IC reqs too.

So yeah, so far it looks like Friday is going to be the best day it would seem from what I see here and from the info I've gotten from my other sources.

Anyway, so right now we are planning this thing for Friday of the con. I guess right now let's plan to meet somewhere in the hotel at arround 6ish? How does that sound? Then shortly (like 6:15-6:30) we head over to Red Robin? I'm going to get in contact with that Red Robin to see about placing a reservation for like 6:30 or 7 PM.

So yeah, I guess right now I'd really like to know how many people are planning on going so I can get a good headcount for the reservation. I figure about 1 week before the con I'll need to have the reservation made to be sure we get an good amount of space. (again, I need to call and find out if they even take reservations)

Anyway, I'll get back with more info. In the mean time, a head count is what I'm looking for.

If that will be alright with our current Editors I don't see why not. That was something I was thinking about trying in future years, but if we can get it going this year that would be cool ^^

I was actually thinking about doing something like this some time. Although, if you can make it, it'd be the perfect opportunity to try it out and see how it goes. I think it'd be a lot of fun and give the judges more things to look at and pick a winner rather than just 2 videos. I'd be for this.
