Otakon Meetup/dinner

Postby MousePotato » Wed Jul 06, 2005 3:20 pm

With the whole Bash Thread going on I though I might as well start this one. I never got to meet any of the creators last year but it would be cool to network a bit. Anyone interested in meeting up. I know that there was one last year but I forgot john's number and I got caught waiting in line at the pre-reg.

just a thought

Sure. I'll meet up with other editors. OFL organized a lunch at AnimeNext which had a decent turnout. I'm only good for a Friday dinner though if people happen to meet then.

IIRC we usually have a dinner after registration on Thursday and lunch Saturday after the AMV Panel. Don't quote me on it, but that's usually what we've done in the past.

I'll go if there is one, I goto cons more for people then anything else.
Actually the whole AMV dinner thing at Anime Next was inspired, By
one I had at Otakon with the Editors in 2002. If anyone remebers me I
was the guy running around trying to find a resturant open that late
at night.

Every year, we meet in front of the convention center Thursday night, and groups of people who want to be together go eat. Individuals who are not welcome are avoided.

Actually that's pretty much every year Bri, lol.

If this is going down again you know I have to be there. I love you guys (to the maximum amount the law allows me, muhahaha)!

So who is the one here by taking charge of this?

Since when is anyone not welcome? I thought this whole meet-up thing was a gathering for a common social interest.

Jbone, honestly, if you, or anyone else for that manner has a problem with any other creators that might attend, you have an entire month to kiss and make up.

Any tension or "unwantedness" at the dinner will only be a result of a lack of doing so.

I already posted about one of the unliked editors (not "creators," editors), but it was deleted by moderators.

There are irritating individuals who are generally unliked and unwanted, but who follow along anyway and generally make fools of themselves.

Face it, not everyone has to like everyone else, and there are some people who are such annoying idiots that nobody wants them around until they mature.

I understand that not everone has to like everyone else. However, I think that maybe just a simple introduction of everyone would help everyone enjoy the gathering much more.

I went to last year's little dinner thing, though I was pretty lost, it was dark and I had to leave before we could even order the real food :x , and I didn't really get to meet anyone, I just kinda "followed along". Personally it seemed to feel a bit awkward because it looked like certain people know others and vice versa. Maybe just a short little introduction dealie could help ease any possible tension or irritation before the whole dinner deal.

I wanna go this year, but I don't want to go on the premise that its going to be on that same awkward note as before, nor do I think anyone who may be considered "irritating" would like to be left out as well. Maybe its just wishful thinking that a group of relative strangers could somehow all feel comfortable with each other because of a common interest.

Meh, only time will tell I guess.

You're missing the point. Everyone knows who certain people are, but nobody wants to associate with them.

But thats the problem, though, is that nobody wants to even try to associate with them.

It all goes back to the whole first impression. If someone makes a bad impression, they are labeled as annoying or the such and are avoided. I guess I was kinda hoping that this meeting would allow whoever to try and redeem themselve with a positive projected image.

And like I said before, I went last year, even if it was just for about an hour. I still don't really know anyone. Would be nice if I thought this year would be any different.

I dunno. Like I said before, I just really would like to go and have it be a real positive thing for all AMV editors who attend, dispite any self-projections here on the org. I'm starting to think that is becoming less and less likely though.
