Kunicon St. Louis - AMV contest & other stuff

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime conventions, and for the exchanging of rides to, and rooms at, conventions.

Postby basterd!! » Wed Mar 09, 2005 2:17 am

Damn straight. We all just need to get the word out so the fans won't have to endure/be taken in by this craptacular "convetion. We need to post to the fan sites and local anime club websites. I'm making sure everyone in my kansas city anime club knows the truth.

Kunicon

Postby Malindachan » Wed Mar 09, 2005 9:03 am

Yup, I was at Kunicon too. I'll say, it was worth the $20 I paid when I preregistered over winter break, however, it was NOT worth the $43 at the door for the weekend pass. I enjoyed watching the price raising higher than expected after I registered. I guess they figured out that they wouldn't make enough profit just charging $35 at the door like a originally planned.

Also, Kunicon's website or lack of is freakin hillarious! Thank you for posting that!

I won't bother reposting what others have already said. I might go back to Kunicon next year and volunteer. Seems like they need some people who know how to run the various aspects of a con. One comment that wasn't mentioned, their anime viewing rooms were horribly off time wise. Not sure about all the rooms, but there was at least one where no one was monitoring. Anyways, the con people thought that 2 episodes of torrent anime = one hour. Needless to say, by 1pm shows from 5pm were showing, which makes me wonder if that midnight hentai run went off way early.

But yeah, I've now seen what profit ran cons are like and it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I might volunteer just b/c I like the idea of there being a con in my state and having it run smoothly would be nice. However, I might just drive the extra couple hundred to go to a real con.

Update: Their website is back up. The forum is surprisingly void of negative feedback on the con. One wonders...

Well, they did go into an area where there has never been an anime convention, so the feedback won't always be so negative.

When they go into cities of con veterans, they get it pretty good. I noticed you quoted me on the kuni forums, damn is manny gonna try and kill me XD

Only because it was relevant. My goal is to stir up the hornet's nest enough to keep them from getting to Philadelphia (a city they'd mentioned in their Coming Soon thing way back when), so any excuse I can get to post negative stuff on their website is a good excuse...

Actually, I was...

Postby Kagome-Chan-Girl » Fri Mar 11, 2005 12:38 am

Sorry...I was the most screamy and obnoxious Inuyasha fan girl...I was wearing the black and red kimono. I was all, "INUYASHA!" and, "INUYASHA AND KAGOME FOREVER!" and, "YEA MIROKU" and all that. I am really sorry to everyone who had to listen to that, I get REALLY jumpy when I am around a lot of people and my favorite thing comes on.

I found it completely HORRIFYING when people started flashing their damn cameras and phones. I thought I was gonna go blind.

Hon, it's Scott McNEIL not Scott McNEAL. God, biggot.

Anyway, I AM VERY VERY sorry for the noise. I promise I won't do it again at the next kunicon! ;)

Again, I am sorry. Gomen nasai! I am a real idiot...And I got really embarrassed when I was leaving the contest and everyone was either saying, "You should shut up more" or "You're a little nerd". I wanted to kill them. But I stayed un-sinful. *angel halo*

One more time. I AM VERY VERY VERY SORRY! I am so stupid...*sigh...*

Looking back at how immature I was, I wish I could rewind time and go through just applauding. That first video of Inuyasha and Kagome was heart-stopping adorable.

Sorry, people....

It's Bigot, not Biggot. And by the way...

dictionary.com wrote:big·ot (bImagegImageImaget)
n.

1. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

History:
[French, from Old French.]
Word History: Bigots may have more in common with God than one might think. Legend has it that Rollo, the first duke of Normandy, refused to kiss the foot of the French king Charles III, uttering the phrase bi got, his borrowing of the assumed Old English equivalent of our expression by God. Although this story is almost surely apocryphal, it is true that bigot was used by the French as a term of abuse for the Normans, but not in a religious sense. Later, however, the word, or very possibly a homonym, was used abusively in French for the Beguines, members of a Roman Catholic lay sisterhood. From the 15th century on Old French bigot meant “an excessively devoted or hypocritical person.” Bigot is first recorded in English in 1598 with the sense “a superstitious hypocrite.”

2. a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from his own

3. A person who is religiously attached to a particular computer,
language, operating system, editor, or other tool (see
religious issues). Usually found with a specifier; thus,
"Cray bigot", "ITS bigot", "APL bigot", "VMS bigot", "Berkeley
bigot". Real bigots can be distinguished from mere partisans
or zealots by the fact that they refuse to learn alternatives
even when the march of time and/or technology is threatening
to obsolete the favoured tool. It is truly said "You can tell
a bigot, but you can't tell him much." Compare weenie.

And here, I shall give, a hearty "WHAT THE HECK?"

My mis-spelling of Scott McNeil's name while sleep deprived makes me a bigot? I should feel insulted, I think.. Especially since you pointing out the mis-spelling so flauntingly makes you one, too, perhaps. By definiteion 2 I believe. I can sometimes fit in with definition 2 if I get too hot-headed, but honestly, this is not one of those cases.

I also run the company that hosts their website, i can say that this is the 2nd time they have not paid on time. Let alone, they have not paid reimbursements they owe my company for being at the event, and the volunteers who were suppose to be reimbursed from Miami are yet to be reimbursed. This convention is a sham. I used to have faith in it, until there was a change of management.

In my personal opinion.Under no circumstances should any convention in this country be operating as a for-profit corporation. That is exactly what Kunicon is.

The computer they may do, they have done fairly good on their prizes, so thats nothing to gripe about.

There are plenty of other conventions out there, and i suggest people support their local cons and do not attend this national con. I understand it may be harsh, and may piss off the staff members i know from the con, but thats what i feel.

I would love to go into more detail about the workings of the Kunicon empire, but i might bore some. I will say though, if anyone knows www.risingsun.net, his report was truthful, and the numbers he told were exact.

Well well well... the truth comes to light. Wonder if the Manny attack dog is still out there...

Guys, just so you know Moadib (the guy who runs this travesty) said on the Kunicon forum (in response to my post which said that nobody worth watching will be submitting to Atlanta b/c of the disasters at St.L and Miami) that he'll be contacting some people on the forums. Give'm hell.

I love how the "search by member" feature on their forum continues not to work, despite the fact that it's a phpBB just like this one...
