Would anyone come to a Charlotte, NC based AMV Convention?

Postby greenjinjo » Thu Aug 12, 2004 11:17 pm

The title of the thread is pretty self-explanatory.

Would anyone be interested in coming to a one-day convention in Charlotte, NC that was just a huge AMV contest?

If there's enough support, I'd get the ball rolling. But I'm not going to kick it off if there aren't enough people interested.

As for details, it'd be next May or June (2005) if it happened.

Please let me know. Please know that by responding to this thread you are by no means are you committing to anything :D because neither am I. I just thought that it may be interesting to rent out a small-ish space at our beautiful fairly new convention center and have solely an AMV Con.

Let me know!

Charolette isn't actually that far, and if I committed to seeing my grandparents and aunt (errghhh) I'm sure my parents wouldn't care if I went to an AMV con for one day.

Hoo haw! I'm in. ;)

Ok, well like I said, I'll check on prices and availability and everything and get back to you guys.

It would also need a name...

You're probably the last person I'd want to be involved in an "Orgie" with.

I'd attend a con like this if it was multiple days but that's too far for em to travel for just a one day con, though I'm sure people located closer to NC would love to attend, so props to your con.

Thanks for the support.

I'm not even expecting too many people to come to the convention, I'd only be renting out a space to seat 100-200 people the first time (assuming I can work all this out). I'm trying to keep cost as low as possible, because I don't want to charge hardly anything for it.

The most expensive part isn't actually renting the facility, it's the projector and the screen.

Would $5 to $10 for a type of showing be unreasonable to ask for this?

I'd be game and $10 is perfectly reasonable for a day of AMV events. This is probably getting far ahead of where you are but you may want to consider having some other minor AMV releated events. Centering on an AMV contest should be fine but the occasional breaks with panels or other events would stop any zoning out from AMV overload.

I think your biggest issue is whether or not people would be willing to travel for this. Sure, $10 for a one-day event is well and good, but how many AMV creators are within driving distance of Charlotte? I think you'd be hard-pressed to get anyone to fly for a one-day AMV event.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

@ Red Wolf: I was thinking about spliting up different AMV genres with things like this. Are you suggesting having them in another room so people can leave the actual contest if they want, or just in between parts of the contest?

@ Kusoyaro: I know it, that's my biggest concern. That's why I'm not really expecting too many people, the room I'm thinking about renting at the convention center seats maybe 200 people, and I'd be thrilled if that filled up. Or, are you suggesting breaking it into two days with all sorts of AMV activities, and if so, should I look at possibly renting more space for more people?

I say you have a 3 day convention if you can find a few vendors to sponsor it (ADV, tokyo pop *shivers*, anything that might be charlotte based) that would do you well towards getting enough for the 3 day convention.

Although, I'd also like to note, that some of us have to travel more than 2 or 3 states and while it's worth it, how about some incentive ? Prizes? Take away bags? Liquor?

Considering I live here, I can guarantee insane partying, at the very least. And Hsien, if you wouldn't come down to at least say hi to a friend, I'll kill you twice and piss in your eye sockets.
