ANIME BOSTON 2004 - AMV PANEL TOPICS

Postby dokool » Tue Mar 02, 2004 5:10 pm

So, for those of you attending AniBo2004, Ashyukun and I will be back hosting not one, but TWO panels, the times of which will be posted when the con approaches along with other info such as editor gatherings and whatnot.

Your panelists (in addition to Ashyukun and I as hosts):

General AMV
Kiarrens
Guyver2019
Grover
mckeed

Advanced AMV
Tom the Fish
jBone
Matt Pyson
Marcos (turboneko)

Anyway, what we want to know from those of you attending (as well as those of you who just want to suggest stuff), is what you guys want out of these panels. It can be anything from things that you've seen overlooked at panels you've attended to things you'd want to learn at an Advanced panel. The idea is that General will be somewhat more technical (i.e. how to get started), and Advanced will be more theoretical (i.e. the principles of editing instead of the technical aspect), but with some things (like, for example, AVS filtering and dealing with dodgy footage) explained more technically.

We eagerly await your suggestions and hope to have a helluva set of panels this year =)

Bah you.

General: Technical stuff (basically demystifying AD's guide as far as we can take it)

Advanced: More theoretical (how to approach different kinds of videos, not doing effects for the sake of effects, etc) but with some technical stuff as well.

Topics we definately want to go over are improving footage quality (AVS filtering, and I believe Ash might want to show off the hell he went through in dealing with his Greatest Anime Hero vid), and masking (as that seems to be the most widespread of so-called "advanced" effects). Anything else is up to you guys as panelists (we're sending out group emails soon), to those who respond to our posts, and to the people who ask questions at our panel =)

Wow, you know it looks really professional you telling your panellist what the content of their panels should be on a public forum........

Considering that this is stuff my panelist and I have already talked about in IMs, it's rather redundant...

Oh yes. We're trying to secure one of Vic's lensflares as a walk-on panelist to offer advice on proper usage...

Especially when I've never done the things he specifically referenced in his response.

Let's just all order pizza and watch Law & Order on the projector. Screw the panel, none of us have any idea what it's supposed to be about, anyway.

I always thought the General panel was more for theoritical stuff (concept, ideas, etc...) and the Advanced was more for technical (effects, obtaining footage, etc...). Maybe it's done differently up north. :P

We had one panel last year that was a lot of general technical questions, thus we're making that the General panel. At this point it looks like we must sacrifice half an hour in order to get into Panel 1, so the distribution of technical/theoretical info may need to be revised...
