I'm glad you didn't think I was talking about you, as I read the thread again and realized one could, possibly, read that into it : )
Anyway, I actually have to agree that I don't believe panels should get too out of hand. A lot of younger kids atend these panels, and people like me shouldn't be sitting up there announcing "FUCK [such and such] because I'm DRUNK!!!" It isn't helpful, and not everyone paid to see that.
On the other hand, I don't think it's wrong to have a few drinks. The reason I drink on panels is that I'm usually boring up there and/or don't say a word if I don't knock back a few. This is why I'm not trying to get on any panels anymore really - other than AWA, which is just insanity anyway and the crowd seems to come to the Nightowl Pictures panel for just that; and Animazement, where I won't speak much, as I hope to simply moderate, being the commander of all things AMV now.
It did get out of hand at Katsu last year, and although I did attempt to throw in a bit of insight (not to mention not agreeing with many things that were going to be/were said), it became insane. I invited a few people, a few people invited a few more, and by the time the panel came around, we had about 30 panelists, all but three or four drinking (most loud as hell, including myself). I suppose I was just too use to AUSA, where the crowd was mostly made up of friends and fellow creators who didn't give a rat's ass. Who thought anyone would attend? : )
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Have fun responding or ignoring, I'm getting ready for Katsu.
