Well, you can't blame the problems on anyone in particular. It was a time crunch and not everything got screened. I do think it was a horrible twist of fate for the two consecutive Evanescence Bring Me To Life videos, as it was unfair to both of them, but that was a coincidence more than anything as far as I could tell. The Naruto video assault was mean, no real denying or defending against that beyond the aforementioned lack of screening time.

The biggest tragedy in my opinion was the dvd malfunction that cut four videos from the end, and not just because mine was one of them. They were all good, one even went on to get third place, and it was just a cruel technical error. They were shown at the cosplay contest, so all was not lost and they probably got more recognition that way anyway.

I wonder who is going to get roped into doing the contest next year. I'm going to be on staff again, though I sincerely doubt they'd want me to touch anything given I'm a jerk who would cut the contest down to 45 minutes with my anti-subtitle, anti-watermarked, anti-crappy elitist jerk mentality. Nope, I shall remain the art room nazi who tells you not to touch things and puts things on the truck when the con is over.

As per the naruto vids, those were apparently submitted all on 1 tape, with no info whatsoever. I would have cut that crap out right there ;p

I really thought he was showing them by anime for a while there, the Naruto vids really threw me for a loop because I expected mine to come following the last one, but man I saw a lot of subs, a lot of DivX labels, and a lot of LONG songs, that just wouldn't end....

Was there a pre screening or what?

That'd be a Nightowl question, but I sincerely doubt it. If there was, only one of the Naruto videos would have gotten through and I have no doubt in my mind that Perfect Blue would have been cut.

As much of a hippocrit as I am for saying this after sending my things in late for three years now, methinks we should stick with the solid deadline next year to make sure everything can get screened.

I was surprised by that also. It seems a natural idea to have categories, maybe along the lines of serious, parody/comedy, etc. If there were categories, more of the deserving vids would have gotten at least some attention when winners were shown.

AZ hasn't ever done categories to my recollection, most likely because we tend to get all comedy or drama videos and maybe one or two action ones a year. If enough people are bothered by it, we can run it by whatever AMV guy gets picked next year, though I really have no idea what control they have beyond compilation and announcement of winners.

I definetely think it should be run by whoever is in charge of the AMV contest next year, also I think that the time limit for videos should be changed from 8 minutes to 6 minutes. As you stated Kurai there was a LOT of drama videos, and when you have drama video after drama video all of them lasting 6 to 8 minutes, man that really starts to get to you. Anyone to comment on who the "expert" judges were? Just curious, not gonna start bashing their choices, in the forums, just had a bit of disagreement on their choices, I had most of the winners I think picked out as well, but none of mine were even close

What's funny is most of the complaints made have been addressed (on the first day of the con, no less) and will be in place for next year. We will have pre-screenings (I got 90% of the entries three days before the con), the entries will be no longer than six minutes (though only one actually went over six - I want five, but I'm not the only person with input, even though I'm running the thing), I'll have some HELP (I don't want to be alone in this), no subs, no watermarks, no crap. The rules are gonna change a hell of a lot. This was the first year for a big change from Quu to me, so we all knew there would be kinks to work out. Oh, and the contest will be 90 minutes at most.

The winner placement has been an Animazement staple for awhile, and although I don't think it will change, if there is a call for it, I'll run it by the guys upstairs.

Also, next year, I'm going to request time to test the equipment before showing the contest. Because I was compiling the thing for 96 straight hours, I got done at 5am on Fri. morning. I woke up six hours later to drive up there, and there just wasn't time to test the player. Turns out it was a glitch in the DVD player, as the disc played fine on the other systems I've since checked it on. I'd like to apologize once again to those who didn't get their videos screened initially.

The expert judges were hand picked a few minutes after the contest. They were all staff, as the only creators I could get in touch with were already entered into the contest. We did the best we could with what we had to work with.

I'll stand by the winners, as I think they were all excellent videos. Hell was the obvious choice for fan favorite, and no video was getting multiple placements. However, I do think honorable mention and fan favorite should be awarded prizes if first, second, and third are.

Although I'd like to say the back to back placement of two videos with the same song was a cruel attempt to mock the contest, it was an honest mistake. After being up for days compiling the thing, I hadn't noticed, and didn't have time to pre-screen the thing. Next year, the address will be my own listed, so I can get entries on time.

The three Naruto videos had no information and were submitted together as a group, under seperate creators. Technically they were seperate entries. Under the new rules, they will be cut.

I'd love to know if the Full Metal Gamers guys are out there. I'd like to beat them. A lot.

The email address will also be changed to my own, as I seemed to only get half the emails from various entrants.

What I'd like as a present for next year: a small staff that's able to meet in one place before the con (it wouldn't have to be more than two people, just to help out, bring extra systems for quicker compression, etc.), FTP space, and total control over all aspects of the contest (i.e. the email so I can respond to people and receiving of entries, which could benefit the compilation just a tad).

I think I've addressed at least a few things in here. I'm exhausted from the weekend and I'm going back to sleep.

I heard it was good, though I didn't actually see it. I was playing hall nazi and keeping people out of the way of the cosplayers who were getting their pictures taken and rushed on stage throughout the event, so I only saw the people in their costumes (which were very nice) and heard the loud parts. I kinda regret not seeing it, as apparently it was very good. I'd order the dvd if I had 20 bucks to kill on cosplay footage...

From the looks of the costumes alone, the cosplay seemed lacking compared to last year... I mean, a sailor moon group won first prize in the advanced category -_-;;; While I didn't see most of the contest either, I heard what was going on, and most of the skits and stuff didn't really seem up to par by what I saw last year by a long shot. The 2 entrants that really stood out to me, were a resident evil group (for their skit, not the costumes), and a girl that had a freaking amazing Bubblegum Crisis 2040 hardsuit o.o Aside from those 2, there wasn't really anything that caught my attention, except this kid in novie category with a gundam costume.

I have to admit that the sailor mercury costume with the light visor was pretty sweet.

I didn't see the skits, just the costumes, and most of them were pretty nice. It seems as if people are beginning to learn to try to stay within a few dress/pants sizes of the character they choose to portray, as I didn't get as many "THE GOGGLES! THEY DO NOTHING!" moments this year.

OMG I HAD A BLAST THERE!!! Me and my friends are so going next year. I spend all my money, lol. Oh ya, they also had the Violinist of Hameln Movie in the anime room which I have been searching forever, I almost cried when I saw it, I was SOOOO happy. And I am not disappointed, that is the funniest thing I've seen in my entire life!!! One of the best parts was... This girl Scizor who had wings, well, in the evil castle, a trapdoor opened up and she fell... and then Hameln was like "Damn, she's pretty stupid, seeing as how she fell even though she has WINGS", omg it was the BEST!!! I so recommend it if it's the video room next year!

Did any of you guys see me?! On Sunday I was in regular clothes, but on Saturday I was Ren from Shaman King, and I had a GIANT black cone on my head like one foot tall, I KNOW you guys must have noticed it :)

Oh, about cosplay... Well, I love Sailor Moon, and the costumes were good, but... I don't see how the Sailor Moon group won first place. Their biggest mistake I think was picking a song from the live action show, which is REALLY bad, instead of picking one from the anime. I also don't see how that Angel Sanctuary one won overall either, angels just basically twirled around. I loved the funny ones though, they were great.

Me and my friends entered the costume contest, none of us won, but this one Japanese judge lady laughed at my costume, and I was happy because that was my goal. My pointy cone was supposed to get at least one person to laugh and it got a whole lot more :).

Oh, also, on Sunday, even though I wasn't dressed up, you guys may have seen me! I had a sign!!! It said "Hug me or I shall DESTROY you. :)"
