CNAnime

I've never been to an anime con before. So I was wondering if anybody could really tell me what goes on and maybe inparticular the Canadian National Anime Expo? I'm thinking of going, since it's this weekend, but I just want some info from the fans.

I went for a couple of years several years ago. I was not impressed. The only reason I'd go these days is because I also have friends in Toronto, but work is busy around this time of year. Keep in mind the following is based on being there in '98 and '99.

CNAnime is one of those corporate-run, "three-in-one" conventions. If you're sufficiently interested in sci-fi and comics as well, I guess you might like it, but I'm not. (not enough for those portions to be really interesting to me)

Unlike most other anime cons, it runs 9-to-5 on Saturday. (or 10 to 6, whatever) A couple of things are run after hours, like an anime movie at a theatre, but if you've seen it, tough.

Anyway, last time I went, it felt like a giant dealers room with some events tacked on. Hopefully it's improved.

Well, I'm still not sure if I'm going. This would be my first anime con, so I would hate to spoil it by going to a bad one. Then again, I should at least try it once, this way I know first hand if it's bad. I'm pretty confused.

CNAnime isn't horrible....the entire con is huge....but the anime portion is the smallest...yet the cost for membership is the most expensive...

I went last year and it was fun ^^ I met many memorable friends there.

The AMV contest on the other hand sucks ass.... :(

Actually Your statement is incorrect. The Anime portion is much larger, but the guests leave much to be desired. 4 Anime theatres showing anime during convention hours, AMV, and many features made it worth while. This was my 7th year of attending the Canadian National Comic Book/Sci-Fi/Anime Expo and from starting off with only a tent with a sceen the anime content improves each year.

Also the AMV contest last year was excellent... Cowboy Bebop Video to 'In The End' was the best I've ever seen!
