Any AMV'ers also do costuming?

Postby Lostboy » Thu Oct 02, 2003 3:46 pm

I've noticed that I'm often the only AMV editor at AWA who wears a costume with any frequency at all. Do these two hobbies tend to be at opposite poles at all cons, or is it just AWA? If any of you AMV editors DO cosplay, care to share some links to photos of yourselves in costume?

You can see all my costumes at http://www.cosplaylab.com/cosplayers/complete.asp?memberid=1503. My most recent one was Tsubasa (at the bottom of that list), which I wore Saturday at AWA 9. The one I wear most often, though, is Seifer Almasy.

I've cosplayed twice at ACen'02 and ACen'03.

ACen'02 I cosplayed as Vaughn Fanel from Escaflowne since...err...my ex-girlfriend and I just have a thing for Vaughn and Hitomi. She has a great costume for it so figured...might as well.

ACen'03 I cosplayed as Seta Soujirou from Kenshin since he's my favorite character in anime.

I have pictures of both of them, but would prefer not to post them on the .org b/c of bandwidth. I can send you a link if you're interested.

I find it fun, but don't do it every con since it's pretty annoying to walk around in those things. Especially Soujirou's outfit since his "pants" are really long and drag. Also very warm to wear in May :-P.

My wife and I occasionally dress up as Tuxedo Kamen and Sailor Moon when we both go to a convention. I've also got a Great Saiyaman costume I've worn several times, as well as my Afro Ken 'costume'.

For more AMVer cosplay fun, come to ACen 2004!

Definitely. The "best" Cosplay moment in AMV history will take place there.

Everyone on the .org is invited. I should even ask the Con chairs to make this an official Event :)

Seconded!

I personally cosplay at most every con I attend. It's just fun. Although this year the majority of my hardware was... well..... half-assed. I spent so much time on the detailed portion (that coincidentally never came to be due to some really bad electrical burns  ) that I ran out of time and had my Backpack and Sandals shatter with in the first 5 minutes. I guess I just like to strike blackmail poses. Well, there’s always Next year.

Yes, I will, especially if you convince them make it an efficial event.

There's a reason why I'm making my spring class schedule as busy as possible :P

Heh! I know Isaac and Frank (con chair) and at least 4 or 5 other staffers...one is the head of media so they could print it in the newsletter :).

"See a guy dressed up as Umi from Magic Knights RayEarth. Main Events 8:00 P.M."

And you better still do it...a bet is a bet...I still need to figure a way to send you the money and get more donations.

Heh. I've got a picture of me in the full outfit (mainly just a large apple tree afro, all khacki, and face paint to look like a muzzle) from when I wore it at AXNY around someplace. I should put it up on my site if I can find it :P

You should do that again, but have someone follow you around all day playing "Who let the dogs out."

I've made costumes for other people (Squall Leonhart, the Wedding Peach battle costume thinger, Xelloss, and what's her name... Mysterious Thief St. Tail - Their choices, not mine ;)) ...and done fannish costumes for Halloween (one year two friends and I went as White, Black, and Red Mages from Final Fantasy 1).

However... since there are no anime characters I could play without looking really fucking stupid, I've never cosplayed at a con.

Next Otakon my sister wants to borrow my White Mage costume, so I might finish up my Summoner costume to match. (It's a FF5 Summoner, more or less, with a Carbuncle plushie to match.) Maaaaaybe.

Other than that kind of thing where there isn't much of an image to base it on, there's nothing I can do. I love making them, though. It's much more fun than regular sewing stuff. 8)

One day I'd like to see someone cosplay as AfroKen using a real fro.

Kodiak and I cosplayed both Friday and Saturday at AWA this year. He was Jet Black, one day in the white apon, the next day as the hippy from the Cowboy Funk episode. I was Wolfwood one day and Seras Victora the next. (My Wolfwood was much better than my Seras by far.)

I love cosplaying. I've even been in two cosplay contests, and one I got an honorable mention for my sewing skills.
