[Otakon 2003] AMV Contest Photo Call

Postby dokool » Thu Jul 31, 2003 7:43 pm

As the Photo Suite is open all weekend during the convention, I was thinking that sometime during Otakon, all of us finalists in the AMV contest should get together for a group photo. We could do a group photo with everyone, plus we could also do smaller group photos by category. As I don't think many of us are gonna be in costume, we'll probably be a breath of fresh air for those poor photographers =)

From the Photo Suite page...

Friday 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Saturday 10:00 am - 3:00 pm 5:00pm - 7:00 pm *
Sunday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

* Photo Suite will reopen for an hour at the conclusion of Masquerade/Costume Contest/Awards Ceremonies.

Since we're all getting together before MAT3K anyway, how about instead we meet at 8:10 PM (allows everyone walking time) on Friday night at the Photo Suite? Then from the Photo Suite, we can go to MAT3K.

Matt, can you email this info to the contest finalists if you see this? Just in case everyone doesn't read this forum.

Sorry man, I stay BEHIND the camera. Those who've seen me IRL know why.

You know, that's kinda unfair considering quite a few people attending the con are not in the finals, so excluding them is really mean. As Matt said there were a lot of good videos that didn't make the contest, so pretty much saying "Oh, you didn't make contest, so you can't take a picture with us" is really a putdown to anxious AMV creators.

And that wasn't my intention at all, I just thought it would be cool to get all the contest people together for a pic to celebrate their achievement in making the competition. I in no way said anything against a general-AMV-maker photo thing.

I believe Dokool already posted about this, but I don't think that was his intention. We could do a big creator picture too ya know.

Either way, I'd be willing. I'd love to have a picture with all y'all..

On second thought, we may need to agree on another time, as dwchang reminds me that we need to get line extra-early for MAT3K... what's good for everyone?

Okay peoples, since I was apparently mucho bitcho above, for starters let me apologize. I was just in quite the bad mood and decided to take my anger out. Anyways I don't see a problem with a picture of the finalists, but I think it'd also be nice to take a picture with all the AMV creators attending the convention. That way if we don't get some kind of gathering planned well we can all meet up there! I'm only going to be at the con on Saturday and I know there are some people only going to be there Saturday so if you want to find a fixed time for the huge picture then that'll be cool. Again, mucho apologies to dokool. Hope to see you all at the con.

You could always wear a costume of some sort.

Kind of a shame that for those all those who entered there is no reserve seating for the contest. If it weren't for us, the event would not be possible. I personally would LOVE if we could all sit together in one area as with all other contests.... So Why does Oktakon no have reserve seating for the creators on Friday night?... In the past, Friday during thje day was no problemn, but this year since it's the first showing and it will be a sellout I figure! I sure hope I (we) get a good seat to watch the videos or else it kind of sucks not being able to see everything and my own video

When people clear out from MAT3K (yeah, some don't stay for the AMV contest), go up and get a better seat. That's what we did last year. Or the year before. Whatever.

Not be able to see? The room is big, the screens are big, the sound is big... You'll be able to see.

Yea, I was there... But this year it may no be that true... AND there are seats that suck since the screen is quite low....

It shouldn't be much harder than Otakon roping off two or three rows and leaving a security staffer there with a list of the finalists to check IDs. If Main Events can fit 6000, they can accomodate 31.

Well...that's my point...It's a shame really... I figure it's probably out of Matt's control anyway... too Bad, The one thing that AnimeExpo does over Otakon for the creators...
